| We don’t do this, but it’s really common in the Philly burbs where my husband’s grandmother lived. There is one car in our block that parks backwards every single day next to their own driveway. Like they cannot be bothered to use their own driveway to turn around and face in the direction of traffic. |
| Funny that people care … is this a “cars and driving” thread or an OCD support group? (I’m looking at you, Virginia people …) |
+1000 I don’t like doing it, but if there aren’t many spots I’m not taking the chance of losing the spot to go turn around. |
| My husband got a ticket in front of our house for parking the wrong direction. |
It doesn't particularly bother me, but I always assumed it was because you have to cross a lane of traffic when you pull out of the space. |
It’s just wrong! (Former California driver) |
| This is done in London all the time. |
| I see this sometimes - it's so trashy and low class. You've got to be insanely lazy to not take 4 extra seconds to turn around. |
|
My neighbor pulled out of he driveway and hit a car parked across the street facing the wrong way.
Parked car was found at fault. |
You pulled up a year old thread to post this?? What’s wrong with you? |
|
I learned to drive in the uk where it is legal to do what you describe.
Who cares? Why do you care? |
Not on my street. There basically one lane for driving. |
| Main issue is that in most jurisdictions, it is a ticketable offense. I lived in a neighborhood where the police would come through 3-4 times a year and ticket all the cars. The other problem is if you have a neighbor who doesn't like it as they can call the non-emergency police line and ask them to come out and ticket the cars. Why not avoid the problem altogether and just park correctly? |
Why though? If the car was in the same spot but facing the other direction wouldn’t the result be the same? |
| It's legal and common practice in other countries. I did it all the time when I lived in London. It causes less traffic because people don't have to do a U turn in order to park on the other side of the street. I wish it was legal in the US. |
