If you park on the wrong side of the street... where did you learn to drive?

Anonymous
I live on a street of single family homes and about 1/4 of the cars are parked the "wrong way." Nobody cares.

Most homes don't have a driveway and those that do only can park one car. Of course, the driveway eliminates a street parking spot so it's a wash. No garages (the horror!).

With cars parked on both sides of the street, two cars can't pass each other. There is no left or right lane - there's just one lane down the middle. It's tight but I've come to like the part where people don't drive very fast and through traffic seems to avoid our street.

My wife often parks the wrong way and she's from Ohio. I compulsively drive around as needed to always park the right way and I'm from Pennsylvania. Not sure if this helps. Did I mention that nobody cares? (except for me and the OP)

If the later, who cares? There's literally no impact on anyone, and it may make it marginally easier to enter and exit the car. No harm no foul.

Unless it is a one way, the driver had to drive on the wrong side of the road to get by the curb in that direction.

And they're driving on the wrong side of the street to get out of the spot.

If you're on a busy street, that's just dangerous and stupid.

If you're on a less busy street, then not turning around is just laziness.

Don't be a dangerous, stupid, or lazy driver.

Same here. I park in front of my house whichever way I’m approaching my house. I’d say 75% of the time it’s the “wrong” side, 25% right side. Most people on the block do the same. Learned to drive in NJ, but when I lived there I always turned around to face the right way. Maybe because my dad always did.

In my neighborhood you definitely get ticketed for parking on the wrong side of the street

I am not a person who believes that Maryland drivers are bad drivers. But I have only seen this in residential neighborhoods in Maryland.

That's because we can maneuver safely and easily from any side of the road, but VA drivers? Lord save us...

I'm in Fairfax County. We live in a Springfield neighborhood. I've seen the police drive through and ticket vehicles parked on the wrong side of the streets.

I learned to drive in Paris, France, where if you see a spot, you do whatever it takes to get it, because in 2 seconds it will be gone and you'll circle for an hour before someone leaves.

I didn't know there was a law that prohibited parking on the left side of the street? Seems unnecessary.

In California where I grew up, you get ticketed, even on a quiet residential street. So, never there.

They used to do this in a specific inner-ring suburb of Detroit quite a bit. The area is called "South Warren" and used to be a hillbilly bastion, but is now mostly black.
