| PP here. Was trying to add, … but Pomona overshot by a lot here. |
Makes me feel a little better. I just feel so bad for DD. |

1400 SAT, 3.9 uw/4.6w, 4 yr varsity athlete with leadership, 7 APs - 6 more in progress, MCPS, URM, did not apply early admission or early action for any school
Amherst - no Rochester - yes with Dean's scholarship Waiting for UMDCP, Lehigh, Tufts, two Ivies (reach but legacy at one and expressed sports recruitment at other) |
At Whitman (MCPS), 53 students earned 5s on the BC calc exam. Four earned a score of 2. Maybe the privates were taking AB? |
| Not PP, but text says "AP AB Cal". |
Son accepted at Swarthmore and University of Rochester today .

With such a low admit rate it’s TRULY a crapshoot unless you have a URM, first gen or recruited athlete hook. I hope your kid knew that, wasn’t expecting it, and doesn’t feel bad! |
Half the kids there are NOT legacies. I know in 2017, 7% of the accepted students were legacies. In fact the year DC got into Williams the 2 kids admitted from their school to Williams were both AMHERST legacies. |
You guys sound surprised. They rejected 93% of applicants. Your children sound amazing, they honestly do, but that does not mean all doors will be open to then. Adjust your attitude. |

white dd 1550, 4.0 (private school) national award in EC sport, is sporty (polo) and arty (has a portfolio) and academic
Pomona-denied Haverford- WL Scripps-WL Bowdoin-WL but ACCEPTED UCLA and Santa Clara - accepted with $11k + merit for 4 years It's all become a crapshoot if you are white |
The URM surely helped but hat score is still a bit low and the GPA bar is higher in MCPS since they bump more classes (music, languages etc). But Rochester and Maryland are great schools! |
WOW! WL at Scripps with those stats is really unbelievable...but maybe polo is just not that compelling for SLACs. Congrats on UCLA...that's terrific. Also, try to refrain from the race comments...it's ugly, unnecessary and detracts from your impressive DD. |
Yes, so gross PP and frankly clueless. It's a crapshoot for everybody. Your DD has great options and the schools where she was shut out are reaches for everybody, just by virtue of the fact that they reject 90+% of all applicants. |
White grievance. Serious stuff. Congrats? |

I’m reading Reddit right now and all these kids who feel their world is over. They worked incredibly hard just to end up in many cases at places as other peers without these insane stats. They are already lamenting how they should have enjoyed high school more. This makes me so sad and nervous about this process in the near future when my kids go through it.
