I’m in my 30s, 5’, around 97lbs. I’d like to get up to 100 at least, maybe 105.
I’m not exercising much currently due to an injury - not able to lift or do body weight exercises - or I would be doing that and trying to eat even more calories. Ideally I’d be over my injury and be able to build back some lost muscle. I feel frail at this weight, which is why I’m trying to gain.

I had a very restricted diet when I was eating for reflux, so maybe the orthorexia comments are coming out of that. I don’t generally obsess over what I eat - I downloaded an app and started logging all my food to see if I’m getting enough calories and protein for weight gain.

You are seeing several specialist doctors, are injured, and seem to fixated on what you believe to be “healthy” foods…and you are only 30something? Is there a mental illness component going on?

? I'm seeing the specialists at the advice of my PCP. Perhaps my PCP is overly cautious? She's referred me to a gastro, heart specialist, wants me to get my lungs checked...
I was wondering if it's time to find a different doctor. She's not a kook and is well credentialed at INOVA, but I am tired of all the medical appointments. I am having dental issues, which is why I am seeing my dentist and was referred to a periodontist. I'm not sure why I have so many different issues cropping up, but it's come on the heels of pregnancy and recovering from Covid.

The injury isn't related - I hurt my hand on a door. I saw my PCP for it and finally sought out an ortho because it hasn't gotten better over several months.

A heart specialist, a pulmonologist, a rheumatologist, a periodontist, a gastroenterologist, an orthopedic dr, anyone else. This is NOT normal for your 30s! What is going on that you have multi organ systems in disarray.

Generally PCPs refer out to a bunch of specialists when there is nothing really wrong, but that isn't an answer which is accepted. People won't go to psychiatrists, and they won't stop hammering at the PCP until they "take it seriously." So -- specialists.

It's a strategy that gets them out of the office and on someone else's plate.

Or, my PCP is overzealous, which is what I suspect and why I am looking at switching. I did follow up with heart specialist (Inova lost my test, but the cardio said I have a heart murmur and most likely at my age everything is fine) and gastro (who did find inflammation and polyps and I was on medication for awhile and changed my diet, added supplements etc. at her advice). I do have family history of gastro issues so I plan to keep getting routine checks for this.

I think I would add nuts?

If you want more calories I think you have to eat fats. People's objection to fats is usually they they have a lot of calories. But you WANT the calories.

What is the rest of your objection to fats? That they raise your cholesterol? But nuts aren't supposed to do that.

Nuts, seeds, yogurt with berries, cheese.

OP, did you ever just think to increase your portion size? Just fill your plate up with more of what you are already eating? You are overthinking this.
