| Was there a stated rationale? Could it have anything to do with DC's new vaccinations requirements for venues? Maybe that runs afoul of Sidwell's current policy? |
| Senior class group texts suggest otherwise. |
Oh, but it was ground zero so many great stories (along with fundraisers at the Four Seasons): Parents gone wild |
tons of people complain! every other post about Sidwell on dcum is some version of how it fails to live up to the quaker value of simplicity. Sidwell really can't win. That's partly because their oscillation between austerity and lavishness can seem arbitrary, but mostly it's because people love to hate. |

They can't win on this issue. There is no way that a $50K tuition can = simplicity, in any world. |
The post office is owned by the former washington home and is their income stream to provide hospice care to the region. |
Probably the entitled party crowd |
Maybe the prom should be in a renovated barn? |
Parents should not be involved. The kids are supposed to decorate for prom. |
And my senior is on Team OP. Parents who think the majority of the class are indifferent to this change are extrapolating from their one kid. |
(Current student here) They certainly did. Not sure if that will happen again this year. Currently there’s a student effort to try and convince the administration to change their mind. |
| As a current student, there’s a mixed feeling within the grade. Lots of people are upset. Still many others don’t care about the location, and some aren’t into prom at all. There’s a general agreement that the rationale is a little odd — in the announcement, details like ‘locally sourced food’ were stressed, giving the impression that prom was getting a crunchy, progressive makeover. Currently the student prom committee is talking to the administration, trying to see if there’s any wiggle room. |
