Overall tone of DCUM Forums - respect/common courtesy out of style?

My child is 5. We had a difficult time. I’m no longer in these particular trenches, but my body remembers quite a lot. I don’t add much to these conversations unless it’s something that was impactful. It’s ok to ignore that, or deem it as disconnected- it’s always offered in compassion. Never a war story, or venting, no snark or directives. Would venture to guess most of us “older moms” see these topics from recent rather than this forum directly.

Welcome to DC, I suppose...originally from California so this is interesting to see the pulse here.

Also, not sure who deleted the thread, didn't know that was possible.

It's the total anonymity (not like Reddit where you have a user name). I don't think it has anything to do with DC vs California.

Anonymous wrote:New here - I usually use Reddit for general anonymous forums, Fishbowl and/or Blind for work related forums. Decided to venture over to DCUM to preview forums for new moms. Is the running culture here polite/friendly/open-minded or something else? Has the culture shifted recently due to COVID19 aggravation? Just wondering because people in anonymous forums are usually friendlier, more respectful. Just trying to understand what makes this forum different. Thanks.

I don't think the culture has really shifted. People like to stir the pot and are willing to be much more harsh than they would be in person (or even in a semi-anonymous forum with a username). I didn't see the thread everyone seems to be talking about, though...now I'm sad that I missed it

Trump-era introduced the fly-over country deplorables or those who had roots in un-vaxxed states to this site. When they are not dying of their Whiteness and entitlement, they are hating on everyone else who is doing better than them. Take it with a pinch of salt. You learn to ignore the trash. I report a lot of things to Jeff.

Try reading the replies with different accents and different voices...it makes it so much more interesting.

If your from California, you will fit in just fine here. Just as liberal and elitist

LOL! So true! And virtue signal a lot! Be as judgmental as you can!
