Obviously everyone with symptoms or positive rapid tests (all participants should use these) must stay away from this event.

Vaccines and boosters don't stop spread

Ok sure Dr. DCUM. ...... Wrong.

They do help to reduce transmission. Look it up. They do not prevent all transmission, they do help to reduce it.

Maybe, but not clear if that is the case:
“Infections with the Delta variant in vaccinated persons potentially have reduced transmissibility than infections in unvaccinated persons, although additional studies are needed.”

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/science/science-briefs/fully-vaccinated-people.html

Certainly not enough evidence with Omicron to know at this point.

Stop pointing fingers and trying to shame one another. The vaccinated and unvaccinated - the masked and unmasked - all spread the virus

The vast majority of people I know who were infected are vaccinated.

Educate yourself. Transmission rates are variable, not absolute. The name of the game is how to reduce the rate of transmission.

Vaccination rate in Virginia

5-11 - 23.9%

12-18 - 66.2%

18-64 - 75.0%

64 plus - 96.0%

The vast majority of Virginians are vaccinated and the the spread is still fast.

In fact, the majority of Americans are vaccinated.

I don't care if you want to be ignorant. There is a reason that flights are cancelled and schools, fire departments, city transit agencies, food service, retail, etc, etc, etc are struggling to function well right now due to lack of staff. It was not this bad 8 weeks ago and, God willing, it will not be this bad 8 weeks from now. The omicron variant is much more contagious than delta and won't be subdued by just shrugging your shoulders and saying oh well. Don't you have any fight in you at all?

Omicron came at the worst time...winter and the holiday season. No reason to exacerbate a bad situation with a big, non essential sports event for children.

This wave is not causing any increase in hospitalizations or deaths. There's no reason to delay anything.

ROFL What?

It’s essential for my uncommitted DD.

Lol. Then by all means hold a big showcase in the middle of the surge for your little princess.

And no one is saying not to have a showcase. To have one this weekend is not necessary and very poor judgement.

The virus is staying. Either we adapt and get vaccinated or we isolate for the rest of our lives.

Adapt means just that. You gather together at the times of low transmission....not right in the middle of a skyrocketing surge that is affecting flight operations, schooling and everything else.

Hiding is a form of adaption, but not an optimal one for fully vaccinated and boostered individuals, who are less likely to catch or transmit the virus, and certainly less likely to have any serious problems from it. Others can make their own decisions. I don't need to decide for them, and if they die, they die. I don't have this endless compulsion to lecture people how to live their lives, or compel them to live their lives in a specific way. It is no longer appropriate given the options that people have and the lower threat that omicron presents.

We just need to agree to disagree. I am not a medical or public health or infectious disease or pandemic expert but they seem to be saying that this could possibly the last big wave, the beginning of the end. Hooray to that but I see no need to tempt fate in the absolute peak middle of it with a soccer tournament.

I think it puts everyone in a difficult position that would be solved by just postponing the event. There were many tourney disruptions last year and the world continued to spin. Just postpone it.
