Deal has metal detectors too, right? And Hardy?

Everyone is conflating issues here. There are cheating scandals, sexting scandals, drug and alcohol scandals, and some kidnapping issues. Pedophilia is a mental illness and that is NOT about students or public or private. That is about troubled people hurting kids.

The kids who cheat, sext, kidnap ALL have bad judgement, some are just waaaay further down the path of REALLY troubled stuff.

Most kids, EVERYWHERE (poor, rich, public or private), draw the line at kidnapping, stabbing, and sexual assault.

Provide links please of students at local privates who have committed violent crimes. Drugs and underage drinking are everywhere, kids who carjack, rob, sexually assault and stab are not.

This naivete is scary and dangerous

Yes, considerably.

Raise your hands if you took drugs, drank, and cheated in high school?

I did.

Funny though, I never KIDNAPPED SOMEONE, SEXUALLY ASSAULTED THEM AND THEN STABBED THEM.

Are people saying these are ALL THE SAME?!?!?!

15:08 -- you are so right. our DCPS administration has dropped the ball on "wrap around services"...it is not all about testing and testing, it's about the whole child and reaching out to at risk families. there is no discernable, uniform discipline policy in place across the board in DCPS still! I wonder if Wilson has enough funding for adequate counselors, advisors, psychologists who could try to identify the riskiest youths.

I didn't. And there's more than one way to analyze the situation. The Wilson student attacked ONE person. The cheats on Wall Street (the future Landon boys?)? They attacked 330 MILLION of us.

10 cheating seniors. Out of a class that had 67 students. That's 15%. Unbelievable!! Can you imagine the scandal if 15% of Wilson's students were convicted criminals? I don't think even Ballou's stats are THAT bad.

Oh, the fine character one finds at the area private schools! The pride and joy of their doting parents! Such a splendid example of our youth.

For all of the silly adults conflating cheating on tests with kidnapping, stabbing, etc, - did you skip most of HS? Either you hate private schools so much it addles you (jealous perhaps?), you never learned basic reasoning skills, or you just love to stir the pot. How is cheating on a test the safety equivalent for teachers staff and students the same as having a significant percentage of the students with criminal convictions?

I remember reading about Wilson getting a group of kids from Oak Hill a few years ago. Wilson was in the paper a lot for a series of fights and violent incidents. The Oak Hill kids were NOT involved in those incidents and hadn't caused problems at that time, as a prior poster pointed out, there are a lot of streams of social pathology going into Wilson. I think the Oak Hill transfer was under Rhee, but I think there was pressure to spread the kids out, I think the facility was closed. Did a quick search and didn't find a link immediately, but wanted to clarify that point.

If the issue is about your own child's safety, I'd focus less on one kid at the school engaging in a horrible felony and focus more on how much time your child spends in cars driven by a teenager. Statistically, you child is probably much more likely to die in a crash driving to private school than taking the metro to Wilson and sitting in algebra next to a rapist/murderer.

It's only silly because you don't want to see it. The same kind of person who will cheat on the SAT and then take his sense of entitlement off to Princeton will happily fleece the government and the American taxpayer to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars. And expect a personal bonus, too.

You must be the sort of person who believes white collar crime is victimless.

I'm the sort of person who doesn't believe a culture of cheating and lying raises responsible citizens.

Meaning, what, exactly? Do you really think that students at a HS in N Arlington are as likely to have criminal convictions for violent acts? Are you one of the posters equating cheating on a test with carjacking and stabbing? What do you think would have happened had the teacher not jumped out of the car?
