News Flash: colleges like as many applicants as possible to give them the broadest pool from which to build a class. And they have no idea what your kids stats are when the invite them to apply. It's not nefarious.

Not the PP, but friend's DD got deferred. The DD and family spent a lot of time looking at schools over the last year and she really thought this was her best shot. Feel bad and hope she gets in on regular.

I’ve heard of many kids deferred ED at Wash U this year. It’s tough.
