What do you think? Those stats are good but unremarkable relative to admitted students profile. Why would you succumb to direct marketing?

So weird that you are letting them manipulate you like that.

I would block and hate any organization that sent me daily spam.

They did the same to me over 2 decades ago. It sort of worked - I applied, was admitted, and was even offered merit aid, although I did not attend.

They don't know you child only has a 3.6 gpa. They only see the test scores.

+1
I highly doubt that he would get in with a 3.6 unweighted

I don’t consider WashU a second tier school at all, but it’s true that they and the University of Chicago are notorious for this tactic to increase applications. It means absolutely nothing for your child’s chances. If your kid is interested, keep in mind that WashU is a schools that values demonstrated interest.

Last year WashU waived the application fee for a lot of students via email (not need based). If you receive a fee waiver and your student can tweak his/her essays, it is worth a try. My DD attends WashU and loves it.

when are people going to understand that, from some private schools, a 3.6 is a very competitive GPA. It's so frustrating to hear people make broad claims about GPAs on this site over and over. GPAs are meaningless w/out context!!

Jeff Selingo’s book (local author) has a great chapter on marketing by colleges. If you weren’t interested, don’t apply simply because you get mail. Names are purchased from the testing boards so frequently in much bigger quantities than they have slots. And, it is not connected to admissions in the slightest. Don’t fall for it. If you weren’t interested, please don’t feed the beast by applying.

Same with my older brother. We had never heard of it, but the mailings came at least once a week. He actually considered applying despite having said he wanted to go to school in the northeast.

Going to assume this is a serious question:

1) Sidwell
2) Georgetown Day
3) NCS/St Albans

(others will claim they are as good as above eg Potomac and Maret)

The DC private schools: Sidwell, NCS, St Albans, possibly GDS. they are stingy with grades. a 3.6 is a good GPA.
