Hermes Shoppers - Explain the purchase process for me.

Lol at the above players. Yeah the type of woman who gets a “push present” is definitely the type of person who would want one of these and think playing the game makes her elite.

Louis Vuitton is sort of similar. I went to the store with my mom. I wanted a 3k bag and she wanted a 4k one. They’ve been out of stock on the website for months. We had to wait 30 min in a line to be allowed in the store. Then when we get to our SA (sales associate) we ask to see some purses. They only have 3 purses in the entire store. None in the styles we want. SA can’t even order any. The whole thing is sort of ridiculous. Why wouldn’t a purse store have any purses? What is the purpose of a purse store that’s empty and can’t even sell you any?

Clearly LV is playing a game with supply and demand. They also try to dissuade you from buying monogram bags because they want to sell leather ones.

Side note- didn’t anyone else remember Carrie Bradshaw’s hunt for the Birkin? Ok sex and the city? Hermes Birkin’s exclusivity is nothing new

Ehh. Push presents are nothing new. My grandma got diamonds back when she birthed children. Typically all major events in life are celebrated. When you graduate college, your Dh and parents usually give you gifts even.

No effing way would I go through this just to have the privilege of spending 20k on a bag. People are insane.

You all realize you could buy one used at The Real Real, right?

My sister has a Kelly bag; her DH have it to her for Christmas. He didn’t jump through hoops like this.

I’ve never had this issue a LV. I do think there is a supply issue currently, but I’ve always been able to walk in and try on/purchase a bag I saw on the website.

Not the same thing at all. LV is out of bags because of global demand they are just selling out, not a self inflicted faux scarcity tactic.

Not Pp but there are well known insiders/designers with overseas factories who create these dupes.

I just googled and am now down the Reddit rabbit hole.

if so what was the process like?

I have two. DCUM regular. The process was pretty insane. We bought both at "the mothership" in Paris. I couldn't get the time of day in the Madison Avenue store. Sales associate in Paris wouldn't give me the time of day either. But then my husband walked up (he looks like he is someone) and she paid attention. She told HIM (after telling me they didn't have anything like I wanted) to come back in an hour and she would have something to show him. (Total game, but I wanted the bag.) We came back an hour later and she brought out three to show him. We bought one. For several reasons, it made sense for what I was doing at the time. So totally worth it. Plus, the memory.

Next year we go back, I recognized the sales associate, plus DH kept her card so knew her name. He went right up to her, she remember him (people always think he is a totally famous guy--homeless people are always shouting out to him, Hey, famous guy's name--and she said she remembered him) and she presented him with several options right away. Higher level Birkins this time.

The expanse aside…is it worth it? I mean really? It is a purse? Was it worth all that mental energy and game playing for a purse? How much joy can you possibly get from a purse?

I am just totally fascinated by all of this!

I thought that God factory was a typo until I googled it

Yes. My husband gave me one last year. I have no idea how he got it but apparently men have easier times walking into an Hermes and demanding what they want. He's good at that.
