Unfortunately the teaching profession lives in another world, thinking masks will protect them from COVID. Can't wait for the mask theater to end on January 15th.

Since I’ve contracted neither Covid nor even a cold in the last eighteen months, whereas in my prior 20 years of teaching I was sick once or twice every single month of the school year, I’m going to side with masks over you, bud.

Honesty though, sick once or twice a month seems like a lot. Extreme even. My DW and I both teach ES grades. The last time I remember being sick was about 15 years ago.

You're all outliers. I usually get sick twice a year, which is pretty consistent with my team members. We teach pre-K so have more exposure than upper elementary.

The majority of folks in this area are vaccinated and still getting and spreading covid. You are putting to much reliance on these vaccines. You are 100% why covid has mutated and still spreading.

If you cannot enjoy your life in a toned down manner to help covid stop mutating and spreading, maybe you should look at your life and reevaluate it as something is off.

Zero COVIDian alert. Let's start treating these people like Scientologists. No one says COVID will be eradicated, except a handful of extremists. Anthony Fauci has been making that clear, especially recently.

COVID will be here the rest of our lives. This "toned down manner" talk is just an invitation to do this the rest of our lives.

Time to move on all.

I’ve noticed the same. Also fewer absences in my young students. I don’t really care about the mask mandate getting dropped or not. I’ll still wear mine until spring and I think many kids still will too. This is Arlington where 90% of people are still masking up at grocery stores etc.

We don't inhibit kids education to keep people from getting a cold. That's insane.

My kids will be unmasked at school the first day. In fact, the only place they mask is at school and where legally required (we refuse to go to any business that requires masks).

Right? Does the PP actually believe Covid is mutating because vaccinated people went to a concert or had Thanksgiving with their families? There's a whole big unvaccinated world out there and it's going to mutate even if all of us in DC live life in a toned down manner forever. Eff. That.

False news.

An interesting note in all of this is that very few adults/teacher/staff tested positive, and the majority of student cases are those who are not fully vaccinated (in elementary school).

How is this false news? VDH outbreak page lists Jamestown with an outbreak with 9 cases.

I’m not sure about school outbreaks, but positivity rates are up post-Thanksgiving. In Alexandria, it’s gone from 2.7% to 4.3% in a matter of a few weeks. And despite this, several holiday events, including large public gatherings, continue as though the pandemic has ended.

Alexandria is averaging 1 hospitalization per day in the 7 day average. Fairfax is averaging 2 hospitalizations per day. Arlington is at 0 per day. I think we can afford to have the boat parade.

That was from early November (Nov 4 it was reported), before Thanksgiving! Those are not current cases or cases that had anything to do with Thanksgiving which is what this thread is about.
