I'll limit mine to 2021 books only. Nothing knocked me on my ass this year as much as maybe 5-10 books did in 2020, but Patricia Lockwood and Willy Valuation's books are two I'll remember a long time.
I know he's not for everyone, but Crossroads is my favorite by Franzen so far. And Kat Rosenfeld's No One Will Miss her knocked me out of a reading slump due to a minor bout of depression that had me thinking "who cares about these made up plots?" as a compelling page turner. Vendela Vida: We Run the Tides Patricia Lockwood: No One Is Talking About This Russell Banks: Foregone Willy Vlautin: The Night Always Comes Will Leitch: How Lucky Laura Lippman: Dream Girl S.A. Cosby: Razorblade Tears (2021) Kelsey McKinney: God Spare the Girls Nickolas Butler: Godspeed Jonathan Franzen: Crossroads Alison Gaylin: The Collective Kat Rosenfield: No One Will Miss Her John McWhorter: Woke Racism |
