He is beyond cheap! 60° is far too cold in winter. I keep AC at 76 in summer and heat at 78 in winter. People should be comfortable in their own homes! |
Yawwwwnnn. |
60 is a bit low. 65 is a reasonable compromise.
In summer we keep it at 77 |
78... IN THE WINTER? You keep it warmer in winter, than summer?! Are you a cat? Or did you mean 68?? |
This person has no idea what they are talking about. Zero. We leave out thermostat at 55 every night and live in Massachusetts. Op, I have no idea about the larger impact, but I’m on team DH. I couldn’t live with the guilt of not trying to do some Igor my kids future, even if it’s in vain. We do 55 at night, 62 during the day and use lap blankets, slippers and sweaters. |
Between 70 and 73 - summer and winter.
We have a very comfortable house thanks to the energy audit my DH paid for. Based on that we got - new front door, storm doors, new windows, new roofing, attic fans (one on top of the garage too), loads of insulation in the attic space, new and smart heating and AC. Also, we have a super large solar panel system because my DH likes to be comfortable and he did not want to deal with Green guilt or my lamenting how much every thing cost - so we don't pay any electric cost. Instead, PEPCO pays us around $7 - $10 bucks every billing cycle, which makes my high earning DH ridiculously happy. |
Oh, also we keep it at 68 at late night. |
I had a roommate who did that and we fought constantly. If my husband did this I’d consider divorce, I don’t want to be freezing or sweating in my own house 6 months of the year. |
Op, DOE recommendation is 68 in the winter and 78 in summer. You got your recommended temps wrong. |
What a psycho |
No, psycho is my ex, who would keep it at 62 in the summer, and 78 in the winter to "stick it to the libs". Now that I am on my own (w the kids), I keep it at 75 summer/65 winter. Mostly for budget reasons (because guess who is also inconsistent with child support). |
People who keep it at 77 in the summer, what is your interior humidity? Ours hovers around 60% — I think our A/c is missized so the only way to drive humidity down is to overlook down to 73 or 70. |
Why is his opinion the only one that matters? You’re miserable and he doesn’t care? Sounds like a miserable situation on many levels. |
Pipes don't freeze at 60. They just don't. |
It is your house too, you have input into this decision, and he needs to accept that.
My husband use to complain if I put the thermostat above 68 during the day when we are home. I'm cool with wearing layers, but if I have 2 layers and slippers on and I'm still cold, I'm turning up the heat. Maybe up to 71 or 72 for a bit. At night, I can tolerate much lower because we have appropriate bedding. |
