Spouse keeps thermostat at 60 to save environment — how important is this?

Do you honestly think the Obamas, DiCaprio, Thunberg, and all the other climate change celebs are keeping their thermostats at 60 in the winter?

Hahahahahaha!!

It depends on your house. 60 on our thermostat would lead some rooms to be closer ro 50. It would be as you say miserable.

Of course it saves energy, but could a lower energy bill be the stronger motivator for your dh?

It won't make a difference for the environment.

Even if EVERY PERSON IN THE WORLD did this it wouldn't make a difference. It's but a fraction of the world's energy usage. A minuscule fraction.

Turn it up to the temp you like, then encase it in duct tape.

I did math and it seems like paltry CO2, but DOE recommendations are pointed at.

He is beyond cheap! 60° is far too cold in winter. I keep AC at 76 in summer and heat at 78 in winter. People should be comfortable in their own homes!

One reason that my husband and I get along is that he has no problem keeping the house at a warm temperature, but usually we just leave it at 70 in the winter.

also how humid is the house in summer? the humidity can damage floors, furniture and bring mold. might also be wreaking havoc on HVAC unit. perhaps you could compromise by degree or two and/or set lower temp in winter at night and vice versa for summer.

^^^ THIS ^^^

Forget what people say - watch what they do.

CO2 is a crisis? But they fly on private jets.
Walls are racist! Except for the ones they surround their own homes with.
Guns are evil. But the ones their security guards carry are fine.
Sea levels are rising. But they buy beach houses.

Actions speak louder than words. Especially when those actions are a direct contradiction to their words.
