Seriously? Goldman, Goldstein, Cohen, Goldberg, etc. People who are affiliated with Hillel. People who are affiliated with J Street U. People who are affiliated with Challah for Hunger. People who wear kippas. People who look Jewish. People know. |
| I went to UVa and it was fine and I'm Jewish. No issues. |
You changed roommate over that? Seems a bit over dramatic. |
| Another vote for U. Mich |
+1 for Tulane. They have an active Hillel, kosher meals, and substantial population of Jewish students. It’s about a 6-7 hour drive from Atlanta. Might want to check it out to see what you think. Also, not gonna lie the Hope/Zell Miller scholarship is fantastic. I’d also look into state schools if interested. I’d have to think UGA has some contingent of Jewish students given its size. |
| OP, what has your experience been in the South during the time you’ve lived there? |
This is not going to happen in college. I’ve lived in the South for all but a few years of my adult life and can only think of one time a newly introduced person brought up church. |
Also grew up in the south. I assume these stories about being asked what church they attended occurred is very rural and lower income communities. Where I grew up, one would be more likely asked where they went to college or if they belong to the country club. |
+1 I graduated from UGA last year and I have to laugh at that comment. You would get some odd, odd looks if you asked someone that question anywhere outside of like, A Campus Crusade for Christ meeting or something. |
+1. Also in south. They don't ask about church. |
| My Jewish family relatives all went to school in Florida = no issues. Very happy. |

Now that is funny! |
I've found that many people who post on this board have "knowledge" of the South that is at least 20-30 years out of date. |
