Can a club refuse to release your player card?

When you sign a contract with a wireless company for a 24 month service don’t you have to pay? I believe if you pay your dues then you are free of any contract liability.

That’s fair but it seems that the PP is claiming that bryc will withhold the card as a punitive response, even if the financial balance is settled.

Yes - and we are talking BRYC did this 100% last year to two players. Spiteful and over kids leaving they went nuclear butt hurt.

Yikes! Is this normal behavior at other clubs? I have not seen this at our club but we are not ecnl, so maybe the stakes are higher there. Personally, I would stay away from that. Yes, it’s a commitment but it goes both ways.

Loudoun does this too.

They cannot hold the card if the balance is paid.

I call BS. There is no way adults who work in youth soccer would do that to kids. No matter the circumstance. At the end of the day, the coaches I know do it for the sport and more importantly for the players who are kids.

What about the players who stay with the team? Don’t the same coach have to be responsible and care for the finances of the club and teams?

Wouldn’t players leaving benefit players who stay with the team? More playing time and attention? If balances are settled, isn’t that a non-factor for the finances of the club, which as a parent I could care less about. Maybe I’m missing the point.

I have been a manager of a team where the coach didn't want to release a player's card (because he wanted to annoy these parents), and he asked me if we could refuse to release the card. I had already signed the paperwork to release the card to the new team (because I was happy to see these annoying parents go!).

My own thoughts are, it is not just the club that holds a card. It is also the carding organization. In this case it appeared that there was a process for the family to get the card directly from the organization, if needed (though this was not the preferred avenue). Clubs can write into contracts that they won't release cards unless the balance is paid in full, but my guess is in practice, there are other avenues for families to pursue and this clause is not really enforceable.

If I'm leaving and have paid my balance what do I care about the team?

That’s laughable. They do not care about the kids. Hell they kick a bunch of them to curb each year. They see the kids as a way to make money and there are always more kids.

yes, but if sprint, ATT, and Verizon got to gather and agreed to not take any customer from a rival while they were still under contract, the government would impose a very large fine

Try not to laugh.
