School without Walls High Admission test results

Has anyone gotten test results from SWWHSband an invitation for interviews?

The process this year is a mess. Test dates were changed and now interview dates are changing. Some families I know were never notified about testing and had to track someone down to find out when their student should test. I hope this isn't indicative of the organization of the school.

Thanks

You can most certainly consider this a preview into the disorganization of the school.

And Trogisch continues to swear he doesnt need a separate principal for Francis Stevens. Wow.

Dear freshman parent from above. Does the disorganization you are experiencing make you regret having sent your child to the school, or just make you have to work harder to achieve what you can see should be easier with better organizational leadership? Hard question to judge, perhaps, but please try

I have the same question (one of our children has applied for 9th grade but, like everyone else, we haven't received test results yet).

I've heard that the administration is extremely frustrating to parents, but doesn't necessarily affect the daily life of kids or the quality of their education. Accurate?

Is your child transferring to a different school?

My kid applied for 10th grade. Haven't heard anything at all. So I guess testing has already happened? I wonder if I should contact the school, or if the lack of response means he's not being considered. Maybe they dont have slots for 10th graders??

I just left a voice message this morning for Latoya Grant, admissions director. The system at least accepted my message, so her message box hasn't filled up yet. It's been an hour as of now, no reply...

I have been unimpressed with SWW every step of the way. Every family I know that is applying is doing so as a hedge, not because they're thrilled with the prospect of sending their kids there. The kids are even less enthusiastic.

Have to agree that the process hasn't been smooth, and hasn't convinced us or our child that Walls is a fantastic place. Child still might end up there, however. What is your (or your child's) first choice?

I spoke to someone in the SWW office today who said letters will be going out about test results today and tomorrow (up until midnight) AND that "BTW the interviews are being moved to the 28th." No they do not feel anyone has the right or need to know that ahead of time. Please call the DCPS main office and complain. Since SWW now has another week to release results, and knowing people who never received an invitation to sit for the test even though their kids had the required 3.0 and CAS results, I would be sure to call the SWW office if you do not receive some kind of notification about your child's results!

Very discouraged and disappointed with this process.

Parent of a 9th grader here. Our experience has been that everything seems more difficult than it needs to be, from unsupportive or ineffective teachers to disorganized administrators. It's a very nice group of kids, but they sure aren't being given much to work with.

No one in DCPS cares about the lack of leadership or complete disorganization or poor teachers at the school because the test scores are high. What no one at dcps seems to realize is that the students have to have high test sores to get into Walls. The scores are NOT a reflection of the school.
If you have complaints, let Kaya know.
