I have been tasked with organizing an awayday/retreat for my team. This will have to involve some work discussions and some more fun/activity based time.
I have no idea where to start - does anyone have any ideas? thanks! |
| Set up a lunch/meeting at a resturant called the Hangar Club. Very relaxing. |
| Dave and Busters? I think they have a meeting space - but I may be wrong. |
Are you speaking of the Hangar Club in Temple Hills? So not work appropriate. |
I'm certain the PP was joking. But if not, be sure to bring lots of dollar bills. |
Are you asking about venues or ideas? There are plenty of hotels that rent out space. We had two retreats at inns - can't recall the names but one was in Frederick, the other in Olney. - Will you cater? go out? have food brought in? - Do you need separate rooms for any breakout sessions? - AV equipment? computers? Is it team-building? process-oriented as in working on a strategic plan? |
Why do you suggest this in so many threads? It's juvenile. |
| Landsdown? |
Both: either go out for food or have it brought in. No need for separate rooms, or for equipment. it is two small teams that are somewhat separate but that need to be brought together, so teambuilding stuff is key. |
Then atmosphere important. (I'd say that hotel rooms are too cold for team building.) Research inns and have it catered or have lunch brought in. We had a dysfunctional team at one point, and we were so nasty to each other that we had to extend our retreat! Luckily, the inn's atmosphere was lovely. So that helped matters. And the food served at the inn was nice, too. |
| You could do something fun/team building ish outside. Is that an option? Depending on the make up of your team you could do a ropes course type thing or a scavenger hunt. There are all kinds of activities to choose from. |
| We did something like this at Greyrock Mansion near Baltimore. This was years ago, don't even know if it still exists, but it was beautiful and a relaxing day. |
| 4-H Conference Center in Chevy Chase? |
|
OP, I was asked to do the same thing just yesterday - being the newest to join the team. We will be spending one night away which for me is a little too much team building for my liking. Having said that, we also have looked at various hotels in the DC area that are suitable. The good thing is that hotels with conference centers also usually have in-house consultants that will organize team-building exercises for you so it may not be as hard as you think. Let me know where you plan on having the retreat - DC or out of town and I could list the hotels we have looked at.
It is also a good idea to organize a fun activity as well as the team building exercise that you could all do together while you are on the retreat - kayaking, hot air ballooning etc. Finally, drinks/cocktails and a meal are always appreciated and enjoyed and you could plan that for the end of the day. I guess your budget will determine how much you can do - do you have a decent budget? |
