As a Dartmouth alum I have to say I am impressed with the presidents leadership on these issues. And as a parent of a student in a fraternity (not at D) I hope that other colleges follow suit.

I agree liquor is the problem.

They are dealing with underage drinkers. I don't see how banning liquor will have an impact on the behavior of the students.

I think the drinking age being 18 is what's created alot of these problems in the first place. Instead of going out and having a meal and sharing a pitcher of beer, these kids are "pre-gaming" on hard liquor and going to frat houses to drink even more. It's been driven underground and there's no sense of balance or reasonableness in their drinking habits.

True. Binge drinking causes half the problems on all college campuses. Humans make bad decisions and do really stupid things. When they are drunk, they are even more stupid.

Age isn't the problem, alcohol is.

What place does a frat have in 2015?
What's the purpose? I know the Greek system isn't the entire cause of bad behavior, but...

So sad, now none of the 3s,4s and 5s will get laid anymore

Really? Have you been to a college campus lately? Banning liquor (including for those over 21) at all school or frat events or in the possession of a student is a huge start. There may still be some who sneak it in but I expect the use of liquor will go way down. As they point out, liquor is what causes most of the problems with alcohol. UVA has just done a much softer version of this for frats.

If this is true, why does binge drinking occur among students 21 and older? Do you think only students under age 21 have these problems?

There's little to do in "Hangover", NH except drink.

I believe it's habitual. After years of sneak drinking and pre-gaming,which requires getting very drunk fast, once they are 21 it is just business as usual.

And yet countries with age 18 drinking ages also have issues with binge drinking and alcoholism.

Anyway college kids all have fake IDs and ARE going out and having a meal and sharing a pitcher of beer. Then they are binge drinking.

I don't think its the drinking age.
