Apologies for my indecisiveness because I'm normally able to make a decision, but I am stumped on what to do with our interior doors.
Anyone have thoughts on the trend of painting interior doors black? I tend to like it best in pure white rooms with architectually interesting doors. We live in an older Georgian style home with great bones, etc. and all of our interior doors are nice wood but I would not say they are interesting by any stretch of the imagination. Has the black door trend died out yet, is it still going strong, have other recommendations beyond staining the doors? Should I paint my doors black? |
Black doors??! That's horrid! |

No!! OMFG. |
I would not do it. |
What about staining them a dark shade so they still look natural?
Black paint is too much. |
I know what you're talking about and I think they look great (but I probably wouldn't think so if I hadn't seen pictures.) I haven't had the nerve but I like the look. |
No. That is too trendy and will be over soon. Can you imagine the nightmare to paint them back to a lighter color??? Not to mention if you decide to sell, that look can turn off potential buyers. |
love the look btw

Agree with the suggestion to stain them a nice, dark color instead. |

I love the look but the truth is it only looks nice if there's abundant natural light, otherwise it's just too dark and the door no longer compliments the decor/style. Also, while in pics the doors appear black they aren't true black - it's more of a very dark ash/charcoal/gray. |
OP here. Thanks for all the feedback. I might go toward a gray paint instead. A creamy gray. Think French gray. We have two hallways that get almost no sunlight and the thought of black doors in those hallways freaked me out.
I think the creamy gray might reflect enough light while offering some contrast. Dark stain could be an option but then we would have to have all the doors stripped. No thanks. |
