UMBC or UMD?

Solid STEM student. Got in both schools. We will probably do another round of campus visits to reevaluate both campuses/programs/opportunities again. Curious to hear your thoughts? Give me pros and cons.

Regular entry at both? No honors program, College Park Scholars, etc.? UMCP is higher ranked.

State flagship vs. its little brother? UMD hands down.

14:11 again - was interrupted before finishing post and just want to say congratulations to your son or daughter. It's great to have such solid in-state options and I know you must be really happy.

For the full college experience, I would choose UMCP.

My impression is that UMBC is much more a commuter, returning students school.

UMCP is higher ranked. Visit both and see what your DC thinks. Did s/he get into Scholars or Honors? In either case, UMCP would be the better choice.

UMCP. It's higher ranked, and would be a more fun on campus experience. And now that it's part of the big 10 there will be possibilities to take classes from other schools in the consortia.

The big ten is awesome. You can take classes at all the schools.

What's the big 10? Sorry, new to MD.

UMD moved to Big 10 Conference from ACC last year.

How many people take classes in these schools? Just curious.

How does that work since they really aren't close to each other? My DC goes to one (in the Midwest) and wouldn't even consider taking classes at another one as they are many miles away. In the case of UMD the closest ones would be Rutgers and Penn State and both are about 4 hours away. Really just curious - maybe DC is missing out on something.

I agree, I don't see any advantage. I thought it had to do with athletics which I could care less about.
