| i have to attend an in-person meeting at 8am. Is the school open at 8am so i can possible to drop off two kids in the school cafeteria as early as 8am? It worked for fine previously to drop off them at 8:30am and the school says the official drop off hour is after 8:30am...I'd think it is open because sacc hours are starting from 7am. One kid is 2nd grader and the other 5th grader older enough so i dont worry too much about safety. Can someone kindly confirm or share opinions? |
| If the school says you can drop off at 8:30 am, then you drop off at 8:30 am. Not earlier, unless your kids are enrolled in before school SACC. |
| You can't just drop kids off at school if the building is open. There is no one there to supervise them. You will need to arrange a babysitter or another parent to look after them until the time when the cafeteria is supervised. |

In FCPS, you can not do this! Kids cannot just hang around the schools. If they are in SACC, they must go to SACC. They have a "do not arrive before ......" policy in our school. I think the earliest they can show up is 15 min before school starts and even then they have to go straight to their classroom.
I know people think what is the big deal but the deal is that no one would be accountable for the kids. School is. Ot technically open and if staff are there, they are there because they chose to come early and get work done. Is there another parent you can leave kids with to cTch bus? I have done this for years; I help frie ds/ neighbors and they help me. |
| With kids that age, could you have them simply sit out in the hall near the room your meeting takes place? |
And just miss school for the day? |
| No, you cannot do this. Can't you ask a neighbor? That's what we do. |
| You're just trying to figure this out now? No, you cannot drop your children off an hour early to roam the halls of the school. I doubt you'll even be able to get them into the building that early. SACC usually has someone monitoring who's coming in through their entrance. |
| OMG. |
So you have dropped them off at 8:30 even though the official drop-off time is some time after 8:30? What time does school actually start? |
| If you routinely need early care, why not just pay for morning SACC? |
| You don't need SACC or an open cafeteria. You need to be an adult and make childcare arrangements for the occasional morning you need it. |
| "Hi Larla's Dad? Would it be OK if I dropped off Junior at your house this morning? I'm in a pinch and need to be somewhere early. Would you mind if Junior goes to school with Larla? I'd be happy to reciprocate by having Larla come over one afternoon after school! You would? Oh, thanks so much! We'll see you at 8." |
| Is this meeting at the school? |
This exactly. On our street, there are about 10 families that have their kids at the local elementary school. I'm sure it is the same in your neighborhood. |
