Drop off the elementary kids in cafeteria at 8am?

Anonymous
If kids are dropped off at my school before the doors open (10 minutes before the first bell), they wait outside. They're not allowed in until 8. The first bell is 8:10.

How many times do some people need to be told that school is not a babysitting service?

i have to attend an in-person meeting at 8am. Is the school open at 8am so i can possible to drop off two kids in the school cafeteria as early as 8am? It worked for fine previously to drop off them at 8:30am and the school says the official drop off hour is after 8:30am...I'd think it is open because sacc hours are starting from 7am. One kid is 2nd grader and the other 5th grader older enough so i dont worry too much about safety. Can someone kindly confirm or share opinions?

Yes. The school can confirm. Why don't you contact them instead of asking DCUMers who don't even know what school it is?

I've posted on one of these threads in the past. I remember, growing up, going to school early in order to chat with friends, finish/organize homework, get into the school frame of mind.

Sometime between when I went to school and now, that's changed. It used to be allowed, and now is not anymore. I'm sure other people remember the same experiences, and are surprised that its no longer allowed, when it used to be just fine.

I take it that this was back in the day before school shootings and 9/11.

Who do you expect to watch your kids while they are in the cafeteria? I'm being serious.

If the school building is also open after dismissal at 3pm because SACC is open until 6pm, would you expect to be able to leave your kids in the cafeteria until 6pm?

No, you cannot do this OP. The building is locked. The cafeteria is not available as a waiting room, nor are their staff to supervise. If you drop off your children, they will be standing outside in below freezing temperatures for 30 minutes. You need to contact a neighbor and make arrangements for them.

We were never allowed to do that in elementary school when I was growing up. High school had a bit more flexibility, but that's not what OP is talking about.

I got the impression that the OP meant that her meeting is with a teacher. Maybe, I'm wrong. It's not clear.

I don't think so. That's why the OP said "drop the kids" off. I take that to mean, "I'm leaving after they get out of the car".

It makes no difference. So while she is meeting with a teacher, who does she expect to watch her kids in the cafeteria?

They could sit just outside the room.

Our school doesn't unlock the doors until 7:50 with an 8 o'clock first bell.
