13 year old DD wants triple ear piercing

DD got her seconds for her 12th birthday. I didn't any problem with it but now she wants a third hole in both ears. Part of me thinks it's no big deal but at the same time I think it's a slippery slope. I'm scared she will want a fourth next. Thoughts?

Eh. Not the hill I'd die on. Piercings, especially of the ears, are a pretty harmless form of self-expression. I'd let her get the third--and the fourth.

Just make her pay for her own earrings; otherwise, it could get expensive.

That's pretty young. I wouldn't do it. I'd tell DD she can choose to do it when she's 18.

So, IF you don't want a fourth, maybe slow it down some?

I just look at these things this way: If they get it all now, what's to look forward to? Kids always want more. So I try and slow these types of things down; space them out. Or else they get it all, and then only get slowed down when it's something you think is clearly over the line.

How many ear piercings do you have? Why don't you have more? Why are your belly button and tongue not also pierced?

I am 44. I had the third set of holes put into my ears at 14. Don't even think about it now. Didn't keep going. My parents never said anything about it. Don't even know if they were there. Now I am (gasp) a Doctor. Professional with multiple piercings!

No. Is she in some piercing arms race with her friends? Buying and matching earrings for all that will get expensive, and more piercings usually lead to even more piercings.

One of my friends did that in the 80s and ruined her ears--she eventually had piercings going up into the upper portions and her lower holes ripped--I think her child eventually pulled on her earrings. Not sure that would have happened had she not damaged the skin with so many piercings and heavy earrings. Had to have cosmetic surgery to correct.
