| Just learned our private school is raising tuition 3.9%, making it nearly $39-40K for next year in K-12. Anyone else? |
| I'd be surprised to hear of a school that is not increasing tuition. |
| Our's is going up 2.5%.. Yuck. |
| I had kids in 2 different private schools for 16 years and the tuition went up each and every year, including during the depths of the recession. Unless your school has somehow changed the model (which would be a great thing) I think you need to plan for annual increases. The plus of the recession was that increases dropped from the 5-7% range to the 2-5% range, which at least slows the rate of doubling. |
| I read somewhere in a post a few days ago that Sidwell's tuition is going up by 7%. Is this correct? |
| They go up every year. |
|
Private school tuition goes up roughly this much every year. I've never heard of a school that doesn't raise tuition at least a little bit every year and most are in the 3-5% as the PP stated.
You'll need to get used to it... |
We put through private. 3-12 grade Starting tuition was $25,000. Ending tuition was $35,000. Essentially went up a $1,000 a years for 10 years. This was one of the reasons we ended up not sending our other kids all the way through. The costs just became too great for our budget. 3 kids made it $3,000 a year change. |
| Well, it seems out of control. |
Agreed...and there seems to be a good market for schools that charge less than DC privates. Barnesville, Woods Academy & Grace Episcopal all seem to be thriving. |
| All private schools, including private preschools/daycares, do this. |
| We are making this year our last year. It went up almost 7 percent and while my kids seem happy here I don't think they would be any less happy at our IB public school. I will consider private again for middle if needed but I think public may be just fine and we also have some charter avenues we can explore if needed. At the time when I enrolled DC 1 it seemed like not that big of a jump from our daycare costs and I did (and do) like the school. But now we have 2 kids in the school and its gone up anywhere between 4-7 percent everyyear. We also *may* have a third so its just not realistic for us/worth it. |
| We find out this week how bad the hit will be. I'm dreading it. |
| Yeah, when we started our kids in private back in 2002 a tuition was 15k/yr. By the time we left in 2011 it was 31k/yr. You do the math. We couldn't make it work. No way did our incomes double in that decade. Bet you can guess what happened? Yup, moved them to public school. |
