4.3 GPA, Full IB in Public (FCPS) , lots of extracurriculars, no hooks, 35 ACTs, SATs 2200. What do you think? |
My guess: 85% chance of yes! |
My similar DC was waitlisted then denied with similar stats (don't know how the GPA translates - mine had a 4.6/3.92) but was OOS so it's a larger pool for fewer spots. I'd say it's a crapshoot. She's qualified but who knows.
Did she apply EA? shouldn't those decisions be out soon or already? |
The biggest strike against her will be she went to a Northern Virginia High School. |
So many schools have inflated grades but the ACT scores are quite impressive. |
Anyone's guess. UVA is never a shoo-in for anyone. |
No hooks ain't good. |
Do you know if she's in the top 10% of her class? My kids never knew their rank but it seemed like the 10%ers knew who they were (and UVa has historically accepted the top 10%). Agree that nothing is certain. |
That myth has been debunked by the UVa admissions office. |
Read that the overall number of applicants was down a little this year, fwiw. |
No, I mean there is a quota for Northern Virginia kids. The supply of qualified applicants far exceeds the number of slots available under the quota. It's effectively a lottery. |
Actually the opposite is true. I've personally heard them say more than once that given the same stats, the ROVA kid gets the spot over the NOVA kid. They're unapologetic about it--it's just the way it is. NOVA alone could fill every seat with qualified students -- and UVA doesn't want to be UNOVA. I don't know how it translates to OOS apps. |
Denied, not debunked. There's a difference. |
OP here. Thanks everyone for all the good info. Top 5% btw. So many great and qualified applicants. We'll see. |
I vote accepted. ![]() |
