The price is really right if you do this. Go to NVCC for 2 years and meet the (pretty easy) requirements for a guaranteed transfer to UVA. Per Obama, comm college might be free. So, two years of instate tuition at UVa. It's too good to be true, and such an amazing deal, that I wonder if it will be scaled back.

That is an amazing deal! You can do that also at University of Wisconsin Madison.

Really? NVCC has the same deal with UW Madison? I don't think so.

Unfortunately, true.

Makes me sick.

Not so!

It is absolutely true; the guidance dept. at DC's (Fx. Co.) high school is very open about this fact.

My guess is that the guidance dept says this to candidates who are on the bubble because it's not true, overall. Again, eggs must go in more than one basket.

Interesting. It runs directly in opposition to what is posted on the Notes from Peabody blog.

I've personally heard them say more than once that given the same stats, the ROVA kid gets the spot over the NOVA kid. They're unapologetic about it--it's just the way it is. (Georgetown said the same in a Washinton Post or Mag article a few years ago.). NOVA alone could fill every seat with qualified students -- and UVA doesn't want to be UNOVA. I don't know how it translates to OOS apps.

I've heard the same from UVA admissions more than once over the years.

UVA is a total crapshoot. I wish your daughter the best, but no matter how deserving of a spot she is, she shouldn't be too emotionally attached to the idea of UVA. She is definitely in a position to be accepted, but it might not happen due to no fault of her own. MANY qualified applicants are denied. There were 33,000 applicants for 3,000 spots last year.

Wise advice, and there is nothing else to say, really. Maybe try College Confidential?

Top 5% with those ACTs, I'd say 99% yes.

She is definitely qualified, but you just have to wait and see unfortunately. What number of students are accepted at UVA from her school? They have to accept some people from your school, even if it is in NOVA, and that is usually the top 10%. So at our school that comes to about 20. Best of luck.

I think she's in. But if not go the transfer route. It's a lot less competitive.

Don't you have access to Naviance ?

Emotionally attached to UVA or any other school. Any school is a total crapshoot.

Here's to hoping she gets in.

My son has 4.1 and SATs 2200. He got in four years ago. He will graduate from UVA engineering school this coming May.

Op, she should be accepted.

Wanting/deserving UVA is the easy part.

What ELSE is on her list? Where else could she be happy?
THAT is what you should be focused on - in case.
