My in laws left this morning!! They are the ones that dropped by unexpectedly from out of state. http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/441589.page On their way out I ended up saying, "next time if you guys give me more notice I can let older DC stay home from school to visit with you guys." My mother in-law said, "oh we don't want him to miss school for us." My response was, "We need more notice next time." She said absolutely nothing after that. My DH says he thinks his mom got the message.
Now my house smells like Joann White Musk. It's so strong that it seems like my MIL dropped the bottle or something in our basement floor. They didn't take the sheets off the bed (an inflatable ereo mattress) or put the mattress down. (Don't most people do this?) While they were watching my 2.5 year old they let her play with Play-doh on the couch and now it's plastered into it!! I am wondering if they were for some reason angry with me before they even got here. The last time they were here in December it was really nice or so I thought. Should I look more into this? Is it common for people to take the sheets off the bed or make it before they leave? They are the first ones that have stayed with us that haven't done this. I can't remember what they did last time, but I think they took the sheets off. If I ask them more about it wouldn't I be calling them out on their lack of manners? |

Cray cray. Are you Asian? |
While I expect my guests will help keep things neat, I don't expect them to actually clean up and put things away.
Please don't say anything to them. This is not worth a fight. |
Some people think it is more polite to leave the sheets on the bed with the bed made because then they can wash the sheets when they get around to it rather than having an unmade bed. |
Calling out ILs on their lack of manners when you can't even remember what the fuck they did on a previous visit?
Madame, You are an idiot. |
Their lack of manners is coming unannounced and calling you out on your smirk. The bed thing depends because some hosts prefer one solution and one the other. I prefer them to leave everything on the bed so I can deal with it when I get a chance, but if the bed needs several people to put up or away, then they should do it.

Didn't read your last post but obsessing about whether they should have stripped the bed sounds way petty.
And the Play Dough thing sucks but it's a pretty understandable mistake for people who aren't around young kids and their toys all the time. Showing up without notice sounds crummy but you're not helping your case by being a PITA toward your child's grandparents and claiming you are concerned about 'manners'. |
I always make the bed when I leave someone's house. I never strip the sheets. |
OP - You went too far.
Now we know your threads on this topic are FAUX. |
Are your napkins folded? |
Just call and tell them to never come again because from your posts, it's what you really want. |
They should have stripped the sheets unless they were departing super early. |
NP. Not sure why your bring ethnicity into this, especially right after "cray cray". Are you racist or a bigot? Do you always categorize "cray cray" with Asians? Fwiw, most Asians wouldn't be so vocally upset about IL's dropping by unannounced and would never care if the beds were stripped-if they do great, if they don't who cares. We're used to family coming over and staying, we treat our family with respect and we don't expect them to take care of the sheets while they stay with us. |
You need to fucking relax. Jesus. |
This is me. I have to beg my in-laws not to strip the bed because they toss it in the tiny laundry closet and I can't do anything else in there until I wash those sheets. Honestly, the drop-in would have burned me up but stripping a bed and deflating the mattress takes very little time and effort. I think your bitchiness on that matter is misplaced. |
