Jeans for a very slim girl

Anonymous
Help! 13 yo dd has been wearing Old Navy slim sizes with adjustable waist at tight setting. She seems to have gotten too tall for the girls sizes but the women's sizes are not available slim enough. And no adjustable waist! Are there any reasonably priced jeans that may fit? Any stores with juniors sizes still?

My 13 yo is 5'5" and 95 lbs...very thin. We have had the best luck with the "jeggings" at Aeropostale (I put that in quotes because they're just really skinny denim jeans). She wears a 00, but they come in a 000 as well.

Thank you. I tried some Aeropostale 00 skinny jeans but they were to wide for her around the waist and belly. They were out of 000. I did not try their jeggings. I will give those a try for her.

We had the same problems with the skinny jeans there. They were baggy on dd. we had better luck with the jeggings.

+1 on the Aeropostale jeggings. It's the only thing that fits my 5'3" and 75 pounds DD.

Awesome! Glad to hear multiples recs. She has historically opposed jeggings-- not sure why-- but if these look like jeans, maybe she'll go along.

I've seen super slim jeans on Old Navy.com.

I thought my DD was really slim, but when she tried the super skinny, they were too tight.

Look at American Eagle too - that's where my tall skinny DD got jeans.

Abercrombie has "super skinny" jeans in slim sizes. My DD is really thin, and they were too tight on her.

I totally realize that this is not the point of this thread, and that kids grow at different rates, but...has your daughter been checked out by a physician? Her BMI is 13.3, which extraordinarily underweight.

I don't think height/weight ration is that unusual at that age. They start sprouting up. My DD is not that tall (5'1) but she is not quite 80#s. So she is skinny but she also just shot up. I've had luck at Gap with the super skinny slims for her. She got a pair of Abercrombie 12 slims that work OK for her but are kind of long.

How about a protein shake or two? Sheesh

Hey ! Stop the mean girl act! I'm not OP, but my DD was also very skinny with the same dimensions at age 13. and is now 5"5' and 90 pounds on a good day now in HS. DD is simply a late bloomer whose body size is completely in keeping with familial history. I am SO tired of the criticism of women and girls bodies!!!!! Wer're either anorexic or fat and if we somehoow fall into the sweet spot between the two, then are boobs aren't big enough or our butt is too big.

OP didn't ask for anyone's advice about whether her DD's size was healthy - she simply asked about jean brands that fit.

We found old navy, aeropostale, and Hollister to work at different stages. Stick with super skinny and/or jegging styles made out of denim (for more of a "jean" look) since they are usually cut much slimmer. look for size 000 or size 24. We also found a few pairs of leggings or knit pants with thicker material at Nordstrom's that DD liked.

If you can't find anything, consider taking the closest fit to the drycleaner seamstress and have her take a few pairs in.

Good luck. It's very demoralizing when slow developing girls are old enough to have HS tastes but are still shopping in the kids department where pink and purple cuteness is inescapable.

I was the one who brought it up. Note that I didn't mention that her daughter was anorexic, nor did I criticize the mere fact that she was so thin. It just struck me as dangerously thin given the BMI, even if she hasn't started puberty yet. I was thin and a late bloomer too, so I'm not saying that it's bad, but if you're extremely skinny it could artificially delay puberty. Doesn't have to be caused by an eating disorder either - the girl could simply not be eating enough to catch up with her growing body, or could have food allergies, crohn's, etc.
