How many college visits, and how far did you travel

We toured four, two of which were special "Check us out" days. We went to Va Tech, Penn State, Purdue and Miami University. We drove to Tech and Penn State and we flew to Indianapolis and toured both Miami and Purdue the same weekend.

DD doesn't want to go far. The furthest will be ATL which we are going to tour this summer. Everywhere else is within 6 hrs.

We checked out Virginia schools in person. I was willing to take DD to Chicago and New York, but she wasn't that interested in either of the schools she applied to in those cities, and thought it would be a waste of time and money. In the end, she wound up going to the one in Chicago sight unseen because she didn't get into any of the Virginia schools she applied for.

DD didn't want to be more than 5 hours away by car. We visited 6 and she applied to 3 of those. She also got into 2 that we had not seen before she applied, so we visited those (not admitted student days). And we are slated to go to another next month.

We traveled across the country and down our coast. Six or seven schools.

if time is limited, just visit "interest tracking" schools first.

Six visits, and the farthest was a twelve hour drive, which we toured while we were on a vacation.

We toured about 8, all west coast colleges since that is where dd wanted to go. That included the Claremont colleges. We visited three colleges only after she was accepted.

Flew to one (18 hours away by car). That's where DS ended up going.

Over the years DC has also visited several other universities and colleges for extended summer programs, including Virginia, Cal, Stanford, Georgetown and UCLA.

Got it, DC has been programed so that ze does not need a safety school. Good luck!

We did about 11-12 for each kid. One kid was all driving, and 7-8 were done over spring break, the rest were more local day trips (like Georgetown, Hopkins, UVA, etc.). This kid ended up going to a college we did NOT visit. The other kid was mostly driving - there were 2 flights - one to Ohio and one to upstate NY. I think they both applied to about 1/2 the schools we visited. Neither kid did any accepted students days, they just decided based on the acceptances they had.
