3 months PP with DD2. Am only 5 pounds away from my pre- baby weight but my body is still a wreck - huge droopy mommy belly. Need a bathing suit for an upcoming trip to the beach and happened upon Lands End, which seem to have lots of options that are modest and also let me run around with two little ones in the beach. I can't decide if the sort of swimsuits below are too matronly looking or can they be interpreted as cute swim dress options? http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-beach-living-halter-dresskini-swimsuit-top---colorblock-stripe/id_277207_51 http://www.landsend.com/products/womens-beach-living-halter-dresskini-swimsuit-top---kinetic-floral/id_277197_51 Thoughts? Other suggestions? |
| Those are definitely matronly. I have nothing against Lands End, but I think the separates are much less matronly. I have one of the swim minis and wear it with a ruched tank from J. Crew in a contrasting color...it's far from being a cute bikini but I think it gives me coverage without looking too old. I also like the separates from Athleta. |
| I like Lands End suits but I think those two are too matronly. How about a short swim skirt with a tankini? Same coverage but cuter and more fun. |

Get a one piece suit and wear a pair of shorts over it.
If you want a pair of quick drying shorts, but a pair of men's swim trunks and cut the underwear lining out of them. They cover the belly and dry quickly. |
| I have a couple of Lands End suits, one of them is the shorter version of those dresses, I think. I love it. I don't see it as a swim suit per se, but as a piece of clothing I can wear at the pool or beach to take care of my kid. So I can run, bend, swim, squat, etc without tugging and worrying and sucking in. I found it immensely freeing. I would never ever go out in an actual dress that tight and short so it seems strange to say that a swim dress that is quite tight and short is matronly. It only is when compared to some swim suits. I perhaps am pegging myself as matronly, but I am in my early 40s, very tall and big busted and with a baby belly myself and there is no way J Crew or Athleta suits work on me. They just aren't built to support you and cover you. They are built to show you off. |

Doesn't Spanx sell suits that hold in the tummy problem?
If you'll feel comfortable in these suits, that's improtant. But the models look bad in them so I wouldn't expect much on that front, except that these suits might look better on a bustier woman. |
| PP here. Actually the first one is very cute. |
If you're thin like the model. Otherwise, matronly. |

Love Lands End swim suits, but those are definitely matronly.
Have you seen these bottoms? http://www.landsend.com/shop/search?Ntt=high+rise+bottom They rise up pretty high and help hold in your stomach. Pretty great - feel comfortable playing with my kids in the water without my suit riding up. |

This one is actually very flattering, much more flattering than it looks in the picture.

I don't love the ones linked, but I love lands end suits. Last summer with a 6 month old I wore the top from my maternity tankini to deal with my giant boobs and not so flat belly, and bought a solid color bottom from lands end. The bottom fits SO well and offers the right about of coverage. I hate shopping and find that it's hard to find things that fit me well, but I was very impressed by this one.
A tankini offers the same coverage as a once piece and since they aren't skin tight around the belly, are a little more flattering to hide it. It doesn't cover thighs like the skirted ones, but I've gotten used to that. When you're in the water, that part of you is hidden anyway. Throw over a sundress when you're out of the water if you'd like to stay more modest. And look around the pool - you're not surrounded by supermodels and you don't have to be one either. Just enjoy the weather and your kids. |
| I also like the tankini with swim mini and have a couple of them. To me, it looks like a sexy tennis outfit. I have one in a "faille" fabric that does a really good job of holding in and smoothing out the lumps -- not sure if they still make that option, but it works great. If you are at all long waisted, the "tall" option for the tankini is also good, and you don't need to worry about riding up. Order a few and return what you don't like to Sears (they will even give you a 10% off coupon when you return). |
| Yeah, I'm with the others that Lands End suits are great, but you've not made great choices. (unlike another PP, I think #2 is better than #1). The Lands End mix and match bottoms and tops are a much better choice, and can give you similar coverage. |
| Swim suits with skirts are always terrible. They make you look like a fat girl with no confidence and huge amounts of body shame. |
