People do not understand the difference between ethnicity, culture, and race. Very few people even understand what cultural appropriation actually is, so they have no idea when they see it. This story is not an example, in any way, of cultural appropriation. We already know that so many people do not understand history and the ramifications of not knowing it.

Social media is not current affairs. Social media is not reality- it is a tool. Tools can be productive or dangerous.

When a lack of education becomes dangerous, it's time to stop. What is happening here is dangerous.

Lordy...I only follow my teen daughter on Instagram and I have FB...no other social media account. First time I’m witnessing anything like this pile on online, is this common behavior?

+2 This pile on / hysteria is ridiculous and frivolous.

There are a number of articles/intelligent comments from immigrants/people who actually HAD an ESL experience out there if you truly want to understand why this is harmful and hurtful to some people. People are also now pissed because of the complete lack of accountability. That’s what happens when you screw up and then refuse to acknowledge pain caused or say sorry. A crazy lie turned into something worse when they started the double down. I actually think Ireland Baldwin is a good example right now. She was defensive at first but once she listened she started to understand the sensitivities of the situation and she stepped back. She asked to be educated. She apologized for any hurt she’d caused and sent love to those feeling upset about the situation.

If you genuinely don’t care about this story, just put it down. It’s real easy. Walk away. But you don’t get to tell other people what they can be upset about especially when it comes to issues of ethnicity, identity or appropriation. Just stop.

If you’re concerned about HB go to her IG and give her some love. I’m sure she’d appreciate it.

The Love Story of Alec Baaldweeeen and The Talented Ms. Hilary.

At the vegan restaurant.

Alec's people approach him about Hill Dawg's background.

The Social Media Plan: Show Your Stuff (namely, your T&A).

Hilaria entertains Alec with yet another tale about her upbringing in Spain.

Hilaria's fake background is exposed.

Alec did not expect this level of vitriol.

Her children's Spanish names are beautiful, she herself is very attractive and speaks Spanish half-way decently - as she seems to just really enjoy Spanish culture as a Yankee American, why not just say it? There is nothing wrong, whatsoever, in having your children be bi-lingual, as the Spanish language is truly beautiful - why not just say that she wanted her children to be able to speak the language that she fell in love with as an American, and just leave it at that?
Now, of course, not sure if Alec would have been interested in an American girl from Boston, but if her looks were enough to attract him and have him ask her out, why couldn't she just be herself and let it go from there? It must be exhausting to keep up this charade...I don't know how she's done it for 8 years, no wonder the fake accent comes and goes.
In the long run this is probably the best thing that has ever happened to her, and her relationship to Alec, and her relationship to the truth and who she really is. I would think it would be soul-crushing to pretend that you are something you are not, with the caveat being, of course, that if she really believes what she's saying, and has denied and negated her true identity as a white girl who grew up in Boston, then this situation has an entirely different meaning and solution.

It WOULD be a good thing if Hilary and Alec owned what they've done. But they are doing the opposite. This will destroy both of them .

If by “this” you mean the hysterical mob that is overreacting to this misdeed, then yes. This will destroy them. The cyber bullying by people inexplicably outraged by this is nuts. I’d chalk it up to it being 2020 but it’s actually really frightening. No doubt, it’s not acceptable to lie. But this hurt no one and sorry, doesn’t cut it on the spectrum of cultural appropriation. It just doesn’t. This isn’t Rachel Dolezal. This is a woman who wanted to seem wealthy, sophisticated, and like she grew up in one of the most posh areas of Spain. But sure, let’s ruin her life.

It is similar to Rachel Dolezal. Hysterically laughing is all the "mob" is doing, because people find narcissists who lie silly. Hillary will be fine. You'll see.

This is a Rachel Dolezal situation and Rachel seems to have gone on with her life. Her life wasn’t ruined by her blatant lies.

Anonymous wrote:Hilaria's mother was not a "professor at Harvard Medical School." She supervised a few residents at Mass General. My mother-in-law knew her.

Whaaa?????

In defense of the mother, my husband was at Beth Israel when we lived in Boston and did the same and everyone who supervised residents was called associate professor at Harvard. Her mom was a legit doctor with a career.

Agree with this

This is how it works in academic medicine. My DH is an attending physician at Children’s; only by virtue of that fact, he also has an academic appointment as an associate professor at GWU.

My husband also is at Children's and had the same GW title. But the title is *clinical* associate professor, which is different from (tenure-track) professor. Same goes for research professor, as I was in my last job—it’s different from the title of professor. If she left off the clinical part, I’d say it’s not a total lie, just misleading. Clinical tract professors don’t have teaching and research expectations, although they supervise trainees.

So, quite a Children’s doctors are actually tenure track, but also the “associate professor” title without clinical in front of it is used by GW itself even for clinical professors. Here is the head of my husband’s division, note that her title does not specify clinical: https://apps.smhs.gwu.edu/smhs/facultydirectory/profile.cfm?empName=Joelle%20Simpson&FacID=2043024698. I just checked my husband’s and it is the same. Feel free to check your husband in the directory. Honestly, you’re wrong about how the title is used in academic medicine.

But NOT at Harvard where Hayward claims to have worked.

I posted a link above from BIDMC with doctors using the associate professor title with no mention of clinical. I don’t know the specifics of her institution or her job title, but some clinical faculty use the title associate professor at Harvard on official hospital sites.

Here’s the link from MGH where her mom worked. All the staff list their Harvard assistant (what Kathryn was)/Associate/Full professorships. Not a “clinical” in sight. I don’t know why people are insisting that there’s deception there. There isn’t. https://www.massgeneral.org/faculty-development/about/team

I'm the poster from before. Kathryn never was "on faculty" at Harvard. She was on clinical faculty at MGH. LIke Wong here https://artsandhumanities.hms.harvard.edu/people . They Hayward/Thomas women are scammers. I don't know about the men.

Hilaria, like Rachel Dolezal, will recover. it didn’t ruin Rachel’s life and Rachel doesn’t have a sugar daddy supporting her as far as I know.

Babe you can't see how bad this is. But it doesn't matter. Alec "little pig" Baldwin and his lying wife deserve one another. We can ignore them.

I don’t think 60 minutes would bother with this. More like access Hollywood.

I am not into the schadenfreude of it and am not a fan of the internet mobs and cancel culture of it. I do think she is getting more flack because of her body photos (which people are free to ignore, if they don't want to see).

I am fascinated in the story though, as she kept up her fabulist charade for so long. It's a weird news story distraction from the sad Covid news.

I am so curious if or how SNL will address it, considering Alec's relationship with them. SNL really should address it, I'd be bummed if they didn't, it would somehow harm the integrity of the show
.

I also think Alec and Hilaria need to be in on the joke somehow with SNL, to move on. Donate to a good cause and lay low for a bit. Wow do they need better PR advice, or to COMPLY with their good PR advice if they are ignoring it.

It does seem that Alec loves her however. So she has that going for her.

I also admire how Ireland has handled it. She seems to have turned out well, and have a really healthy attitude. (Despite Alec's rage issues, and stepmother just 12 years older etc)

I really hope they get Donald Trump to play Alec and have Melanie play Hilary 😂😂😂

No because 60 Minutes isn't NBC.
