ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Once players and parents get to u14 movement from team to team slows dramatically. Parents are burned out on soccer and just want to get it over with. Switching to different players and parents isn't appealing.

For youngers I can see parents that are new to soccer jumping at a perceived "opportunity" to play down against younger players. A word of advice, you might get 6 months of advantage but over time the team will catch up. Bench players a year up will find their way to the bench a year down. Amazing players a year up will continue to be amazing a year down.

My guess is you're right. This is a younger player thing. RAE is over with by U15. Potentially amazing Q4 players are already lost to a broken system, teams are locked and recruiting patterns are established. If you're a great Q4 RL player with lots of potential its too late. There'll be exceptions but I agree, you won't see huge shifts. For U14 and below the world is about turn upside down. Doors are opening....doors are closing.

We have minimum 4 starters, including my DS. He's not actually thrilled to play with the 2011's although he understands the issues he'd face if he plays up next year, if he's even allowed to.

This change may not be to 2026. You do not need to know. We do not even know if they made a decision.

If ECNL is ready to make the change, they should do it immediately. The start-first advantage will give ECNL a further advantage against GA.

They are not ready. At all.

You are not ready. Ecnl is.

If you say that you have no idea what has to be done. There is six months of work after a decision. Could that still mean 2025 -- yes but I doubt it.

Q3/Q4 players are only about 20% of the ECNL team. We are talking about a shift of 1 or 2 players on top of 6/7 ECNL players' average turnover every season. This is not a big deal if ECNL wants to switch today.

This change is going to shake up ECNL rosters much more than that, with a shift of Q3/Q4 ECNL players down a year, a shift of a few Q3/Q4 ECNL-R players both down a year and into ECNL rosters, and a shift of a few Q1/Q2 ECNL players into ECNL-R rosters. For the same reasons there currently are only a few Q3/Q4 players on ECNL rosters, there will only be a few Q1/Q2 players on ECNL rosters after the change.

Correct, I don't think Q1/Q2 parents realize how much of an advantage their kids have due to age. On one of my kid's team, there is one Q4 and zero Q3.

Same thing in our team,ECNL (Academy 1):

Q1+Q2 = 16 players
Q3 = 1 player (my son, born in September)
Q4 = 0 players

Anonymous
ECRL (Academy 2):

Q1+Q2 = 2 players
Q3 = 8 players
Q4 = 7 players

All of them U13 (born in 2012)

My kid is Q4 2013 pre-ecnl. Usually starts but not always. Don’t know if staying with 2013s (if even an option) or repeating U12 is best.

How about we all look at the birth months of our kids current rosters and post the number/percentage of kids born in Q3/Q4

I'm quite sure every single ECNL team in the dmv are represented in these 2,000 pages

I’ll start - my DD’s ECNL team has four Q4 starters! Four! That’s gonna be a shake up. I’m wondering where they’re gonna get extra talent from because the team one age group above only has one trapped player. I’m hoping there are good ECNL-RL players hiding somewhere otherwise her team is about to be decimated. And for all the people who say that those starters will just play up — for how long? and why would you continue to play up when it hurts your recruiting chances? Better to start playing with your new team so you can get used to playing with each other before the recruiting years begin.

You have no clue.

My daughters 2010 team has 3 trapped players and 2 start. The 2 that start (my daughter and the goalie) have already told each other that they're not playing down with the 2011s.

The 1 trapped player that doesn't start hasn't told anyone what she wants to do. The player is really good and works her butt off on the field. Her mom unfortunately is a nasty social climbe who's burned multiple bridges along the way. I don't know if her ego will let her daughter play down or if her willingness to do whatever it takes to win will have her front of the line for those looking to play down.

It will be an interesting social experiment watching how different parents react.

For sure!

But I don't think parents will have a saying. If this happens, the rules will be enforced accordingly.

For youngers maybe not.

For olders definately players will be able to choose.

wishing doesn't make it true. this is one of the rare times the club has the power because you want to stay in place and aren't willing to vote with your feet and leave for good.

TS is saying that US Soccer has blocked the motion for an immediate change from BY to SY. They prefer a phased approach. Also MLS is against the change.

If true what this means is all the girl dad's that post endlessly about ECNL might soon learn who's really in charge at US Soccer.

Note that in swimming kids get 5-10% faster/better every year. So in soccer expect q3-4 to be about 5-10% better and q1-2 to to be about 5-10% worse in their respective age brackets.

If my Q4 daughter is 10% faster than her new teammates and they are 10% slower than her old teammates then this is about to get very fun next season.

What are you trying to prove? Both BY and SY are a 1 year of eligibility window per age group. Either way players born at the beginning of the 1 year eligibility window will have an advantage. Changing things around just alters who is advantaged. The advantage itself doesn't go away.

Yep. Your super secret inside information you're sharing that just happens to support your narrative isn't embarrassing on any level. lol. The depths of your naiveté and ignorance are on full display. Tell us more about "who's really in charge", please. We're all dying to know.
