Can anyone recommend a Egg-Donor Fertiility Clinic in or around DC? A friend of my wants to conceive that way.
Thanks! |
| Tell your friend to join PVED. It's the best resource for donor egg. Everyone there is a DE parent or trying to be. |
| Any infertility clinic will work with an egg donor. Some have donors available and some do not. We used the Loving Donations agency to help us find a suitable donor and were very happy with their services. |

PVED will recommend ORM, SDFC, CCRM and maaaaaaybe AFCC--none of them are near DC. If your friend wants to stay local, give her DCUM's website and let her do a search to read about the local clinics. You'll read good & bad about every clinic, but what it comes down to is which clinic will be the best fit for her. I found success at SG, others found it at CFA or elsewhere.

We used Shady Grove because of the Shared Risk program. You get 6 "fresh" rounds (but can use frozen eggs) and unlimited FET (which must be tried first before moving on to the next 'round') and if you don't have a take home baby, you get all your money back.
You have to use a donor from their fresh bank or from the frozen bank (Donor Egg Bank USA). But you don't have to pay a donor fee to an agency. It's all included in the original price. The price ranges from $30,000 (3 recipients to one donor, where the eggs are shared with 3 couples ), $40,000 (2:1 or frozen eggs) or $50,000 (1:1). We used the frozen egg route and got a BFP on our first try and have 2 frozen embryos. So we got lucky, but also spent more than we would have just paying for one round. But I know of 2 women who have done at least 2 rounds (with fresh eggs) and several FET in between. For them, the Shared Risk is totally worth it! For us, it was great peace of mind to know we had more than one shot at this. My one piece of advice is when picking a donor, choose one who has proven to be successful at not just producing lots of eggs but also implantation. Our donor has had children, so we knew her eggs will implant and grow. One of my friends picked and relatively new donor. She produces lots and lots of eggs, but so far none of them have implanted in her or the other women who have picked her. Also, once you have found the donor you want, don't wait a day or two to think about it. Many people I know have lost good donors when they hesitated and had to wait for another good fit to come around. |
Just wanted to +1 this--I had an almost identical experience (positive)_ with this program. My only difference is that I used an "unproven" donor and got a BFP first try--so proven/unproven maybe not always a strict guideline. I guess everyone has their own idea of what they think will work! |
| We chose a donor from the available ones at our clinic (Dominion Fertility) and she produced 14 eggs and 8 fertilized normally then we had then PGD'd. My DH is a carrier for a rare genetic hypertonia disorder and we needed to take the extra step to ensure our child is healthy. We had 3 out of 8 embryos to transfer (1 fresh one hit and 2 frozen), I'm currently 17 weeks pregnant. They have a money back guarantee similar to the other clinics, but it is expensive. |
Also consider network 54 donor egg fora. A word of caution about PVED: the owner and moderator can come across as overbearing or bullying. There was a thread here about her some time ago. I was surprised at some of the posts but then I joined PVED and had similar negative experiences with her. I went out of state but if I'd stayed local I would have tried Shady Grove first. It's hard to beat their guarantee. If it's important for you to leave open the possibility that your child will later be able to contact the donor, Shady Grove is not a good option. |
