If parents of the top players don’t feel like they are challenging for champions league they will leave. And it will be tough because (1) there might only be 4 spots next year and (2) for 2011 Arlington and Charlotte are locks for two of those spots so FVU has to be in the mix with VDA, Beach, Richmond and Courage which right now they cannot consistently beat.

The last month aside, I have to assume the parents of the 10s are happy. They performed well Aug-Mar (still in 2nd despite recent stumbles), and are picking up a half dozen strong players from Brave. That team has a bright future, what’s not to like?

11s are trickier because Brave is the better team and there is a local conference opponent in Arlington that will likely remain top dog. But Arlington has likely already benefited from any Union or Brave players open to moving. This will be a test of whether FVU can take a pretty good Brave team and improve it with Union players to overtake VDA.

Yes Arlington 2011 are picking up 2 McLean and 1 Brave player for next year.

FVU needs to hope there are a few late bloomers they can attract in order to have a chance to catch Arlington or VDA

I agree that the FVU 2010G will have a lot of talent (with the Braves addition) at the coaches disposal to be in the playoffs every year in HS. The only issue will be if the coach mismanages this -- not strong will and have certain parents over run him to play certain players buried in the team. This could lead to top talent leaving to the other playoff bound team.

The 2011 is a different story. Not sure if they will break into the top 5 as I don't beleive they have the depth, I guess we will see in the fall. I know a few players have left to Arlington but there is still a few more top players left that will hit the market if they don't make the playoffs. These players will get offers from either Arlington, VDA or NVA.

I think it is more likely that with Arlington increasing their roster size, that they have players unhappy with playing time and looking for more opportunity rather than a FVU player looking to go to NVA or VDA.

As good as the Arlington 2011G are, the players are all not studs and if a stud were come to tryout and make it, they will be playing over an average player on the team.

If they win nationals, they will not have a need to shake things up but if they do not go that far in Nationals, and studs showup at tryouts, they may shake things up.

Agree on this. Although any club would take the studs that show up to tryout though. Not particularly Arlington. I'm wondering if these new kids that joining Arlington are looking to get playing time from their current players. If the move would be worth it.

You will be surprised. Due to politics, Union sometimes do turn away top players.

The newbies will get playing time and this will help the team overall to compete with each other and will push themselves to get better as playing time will not be equal and based on performance. Union on the other hand, plays everyone equally, so no incentive to push themselves due to the guaranteed playing time.

That is why the games are played on the field and not on paper. Sometimes tournaments like this requires luck to be on your side. Even if they don't win it and they make it to Richmond, it's still a great accomplishment for a 12/13 yr old.

If ANY team in this area gets to Richmond we all should be applauding.

agreed, but will always be checking hero dads bragging about 12 year olds and putting premature pressure pn them to win a meaningless natty

Adding to this. I heard Arlington 2011G playing Real Madrid This month for the Champions League final. If they do win it, their winger may win the ballon D’or over Vinicius Junior.

Because many of the Union players from the 2023/24 season are new additions to Arlington for the 2024/2025 season. My kids are pre-ECNL, but we made the move in anticipation, as have others on here. McLean and FVU are a bit of a mess right now. We’ll consider moving back down the road if things stabilize and they have success, but we’re not confident they’ll be particularly good given the amount of player and coach departures.
