Mcps has monday and Tuesday before the holiday. My child is in K and I work part time and don't have to work this week. Everyone I know has the flu or some virus with fever. Am I crazy to just pull my child this week even though we aren't traveling anywhere?
Anyone else doing this? |
| Nope. My kids are older but they will be in school. |
|
Send him to school. He won't learn anything but he will do some crafts and you can shop or get a pedicure and enjoy the time to yourself.
|
| That is actually not a bad idea given how terrible the flu is that is going around. |
| If your kid is doing well, do it. My daughter's 1st grade class was down to 9 kids on Friday because of the flu. I'd enjoy the week off and avoid the stress of a sick kid on Christmas. |
| I have a friend who is doing this. |
| Wow. I thought the last day in most schools was Friday. |
Except it will ruin winter break if he brings the flu home. |
| Op, do what YOU want to do for you and your DC. |
| DDs class has been hit hard by the flu, although she's escaped it so far...if I had the option, I'd keep her home just to limit the possibility of her being sick over the break. |
|
I kept my K kid out of school about once every other month for a mental vacation. I don't think he missed anything and we saw some great museums and historical sites when they were crowded.
I say, Go for it. |
Op here. Oh a pedicure, that would be nice! But I have a preschool-aged kid who will be with me, so no alone time. My child is academically fine, I'm not worried about getting behind. I always felt the day before the holiday was a freebie anyway with not much work getting done, right? Any teachers want to weigh in on that. |
| My kids like going to school. Having your kid miss this week of school is crazy. You are dooming him to a life of working in fast food. |
|
Right now my two kids and I are laid out with some flu-like thing. It makes me wish preschool had ended sooner than last Friday. I'm just praying we're all healthy soon, since I'm hosting extended family starting on Christmas Eve.
I understand your instinct, OP, especially if any of the kids in your DS's class have been ill. |
I'm trying to get some individual assessments done on Monday and Tuesday. We've had a lot of kids absent lately due to illness so I have a lot of make-ups to do. I'm not planning on introducing any new content. I honestly wish winter break had started on Friday. There are so many illnesses going around in our building (students and staff) that it just needs to be scrubbed down and left empty so that the germs stop spreading. If your kids are sick, please keep them home and please have current contact information in the office so that if your kid is sick we can reach you. OP I don't blame you for wanting to keep your kid home. I wish I didn't have to go into the germ factory this week. Just know that it will be unexcused absences but as long as it's not a pattern it'll be fine. -elementary teacher |
