Thinking of skipping the next two days of school

Op here. Oh a pedicure, that would be nice! But I have a preschool-aged kid who will be with me, so no alone time.

My child is academically fine, I'm not worried about getting behind. I always felt the day before the holiday was a freebie anyway with not much work getting done, right? Any teachers want to weigh in on that.

I'm trying to get some individual assessments done on Monday and Tuesday. We've had a lot of kids absent lately due to illness so I have a lot of make-ups to do. I'm not planning on introducing any new content.

I honestly wish winter break had started on Friday. There are so many illnesses going around in our building (students and staff) that it just needs to be scrubbed down and left empty so that the germs stop spreading. If your kids are sick, please keep them home and please have current contact information in the office so that if your kid is sick we can reach you.

OP I don't blame you for wanting to keep your kid home. I wish I didn't have to go into the germ factory this week. Just know that it will be unexcused absences but as long as it's not a pattern it'll be fine.

Thank you for your feedback!! Nope, we aren't the type to pull our kids out randomly.

I'm 75% sure I'm going to do it...

a waste of two days, to be honest

few kids
little content

I'm reviewing, but that's it.

Our primary school is bastion of germ warfare. DD had 9 kids out of her K class at the end of last week. My understanding was that they had some sort of GI bug. My older elementary kid didn't have the same number of people out. I have to send mine tomorrow, but I might give them Tuesday off.

All the people that I know were visiting family out of town left this weekend.

There will be no kids in school. I'm keeping my two out too.

My child is in high school and has two tests tomorrow, so she's headed in to school. If she were in elementary again I'd let her skip the next two days.

Keep your child home. Give your preschool kid a playmate to have fun with (easier for you) and you can do some fun Christmas things together. If they have escaped the flu, I would not take the chance of catching it smack before Christmas.

Keep him home!!! Something like 150 kids were out of our MS one day last week, and ditto at our elem. Kids are puking in the classroom.

Op here. I'm doing it! Not sending the kiddo to school today or tomorrow. And feel so relieved!

this. do what works for you.

No, my kids are going to school. Keeping them home because you think they'll get sick? That seems a bit neurotic to me.

But, if it works for you and your kids are doing fine in school, just keep them home.

Okay, this post from an ES teacher is crazy. Are you really that worried about germs? That's just crazy. Maybe being an ES teacher isn't the right job for you? You're calling the school a 'germ factory' and you wish you didn't have to go in this week? Truly sounds as if you need a career change!

DEFINITELY you are doing the right thing, OP!

My two kids both have whatever is going around. Horrible coughs, sore throats, fevers, puking. Luckily they caught it last week and it's almost (just now!) over. If your DC caught something now, it would probably affect Christmas. You are making the right call!
