What, if anything, ended up working for you? How long were you TTC before something worked?
We've been trying now for two years with two failed IUIs despite numbers looking great on paper. RE won't do injectibles with IUI so is recommending IVF with single embryo transfer as next step. |
| Why wont RE do an injectable IUI? Switch REs? |
| Well...I had "unexplained infertility" but my periods were also torture so I insisted on having a lap done after we had 3 failed iuis. All my doctors were dismissive but i just knew i had endometriosis. Sure enough, endometriosis was found. So now we're gearing up to do our first ivf. I think having a diagnosis helped guide us to an appropriate treatment, otherwise we'd still be doing iuis (per insurance). |
| My guess is that you're on low dose meds and producing lots of follicles. Most docs will do 3 IUIs before moving on to ivf. I think it would be worth it to get a second opinion. |

Tried for two years with no BFPs. Three failed IUI with clomid. Then got pregnant naturally.
With #2, tried for a year then went straight to NC IVF. One egg, one baby. |
He says injectibles with IUI is irresponsible. Basically, because I responded so well to oral meds that with injectibles I'd end up with a high number of follicles and with IUI, that's too much of a chance for high order multiples. It makes sense, but I feel like the chance of that is low because we've gotten zero pregnancies from what we've tried as is. I'm planning to get a second opinion just not sure who to look to right now. |
I've thought of having a lap done in the case that there is endometriosis. What stops me is I don't have any symptoms so no painful periods or anything so I wonder if I'd be doing more harm than good. |
| Unexplained IF as well. TTC for about 4 years, including clomid, 2IUIs, 2 IVFs. Got BFP on second IVF from a frozen transfer of two embryos...twin girls. Good luck! |
| Pregnant naturally after 18mos, late miscarriage. Decided it wasn't meant to be and moved on from TTC. |
I like the idea of NC IVF, but I want to get a second opinion on that. RE acts iffy on that too. Were your IUIs within the two years of trying or after? How long after your IUIs did you get pregnant naturally? |
| Tried for 6 months, got pregnant, had late first trimester mc. Tried again on our own for 6 months, was tested with no problems found. Did 3 iuis and a couple more months on our own and then did NC IVF and got pregnant first time. Got pregnant with our 2nd without trying when 1st wasn't a yr old yet. |

I was unexplained and amazingly got BFP on 2nd IUI. However, two years later, we went back to try for #2 and it was discovered that I have DOR/low AMH and am a poor responder to IVF. We have now been through many many IVFs with no luck.
So bottom line "unexplained" doesn't necessarily mean nothing is wrong. It is more like nothing is wrong that they can pin point. Best of luck to you. |
| IVF has worked for us. In sum, we've tried for several years (3-5) without any success and tried numerous IUIs as well. FWIW, they have never found anything "wrong." We just can't get pregnant without IVF. I suspect poor egg quality, but there isn't a test for that, unless you consider IVF the test. |
A lap is serious. Don't do it unless you know you need a tube removed (or something else) or are certain of endometriosis. It's always described as minor outpatient surgery. But it's still surgery that knocks you off your game for awhile. |
| We've been at this for 3 yrs, with fertility treatment for over 2 yrs and no success yet. I'm unexplained with an egg factor. We've failed a few rounds of IVF and our next move is probably looking into donor eggs. |
