DP. Our point is that it doesn’t have to be functional. If it’s realistic, it’s a threat, just like toy guns. And contrary to a gun replica, I’m convinced this gallows would have been used on someone had they caught them. It might not have “hanged” them, but it could have killed or injured them anyway.

Oh, no, I completely agree that this was meant as a serious threat. As I said upthread - regardless of the functionality, it is a chilling sight. I’m not sure if they intended this to be used or not. You’re right that they probably would have tried. My point is that, as with most things Trumpers attempt, they had no clue what they were actually doing.

And if one of them attempted to create a bomb that didn’t work? Still a crime

Both of the bombs (one in front of the RNC and one in front of the DNC) were confirmed as live and had to be defused.

Honestly, we haven’t seen the president live since before this happened. Where is he? Has the 25th already been invoked? Would we know?

Of course we would. Pence is scared for his life and his family's life and may never be convinced to take that personal risk, even if Homeland Security extends his and his family's Secret Service protection as has previously been discussed on this thread. The 25th would make him a lifelong target among the Trump crazies in a way impeachment would not.

Also, very sadly, the GOP as a party has not condemned the actions of this mob (at least I haven't heard anything), and has not proposed any action to prevent further such events. I'm sure he's calculating what the political fallout would be within the party if he makes this move.

What everyone in the White House agrees on right now is using the threat of the 25th to keep Trump in line. So far it's gotten us two videos in which a visibly reluctant Trump calls for calm. Behind the scenes it may have prevented further insanity, we don't know...

Mike Pence is likely negotiating extended Secret Service protection for his family after he leaves office, in exchange for invoking the 25th. Usually VPs only get 6 months.

The 25th puts him, and only him (plus family) in the line of fire of crazy Trump followers. It's a huge personal risk after what already happened on January 6th. If I were him, I'd be negotiating with Homeland Security (and perhaps calling Biden secretly to get additional assurances) for massive SS protections for years past this Inauguration, as well as for my adult kids.

Biden would happily give that to him. It would only take one quick phonecall to make that deal, so I doubt that is the hold up.

The hold-up is he's dead scared and probably waffling. CNN reported he heard the "Hang Mike Pence" chants while he was sheltering in the Capitol. His wife and one daughter were in the building too.

Of course he heard it. Meanwhile he was silent as Whitmer was threatened with kidnapping and his little cronies went after Clinton for years.

Not fun when its you - is it? The GOP built this monstrosity, its time they took it on.

Republicans are terrified of the very people they empowered.

This is WHY one invokes the 25th Amendment.

If Pence invoked the 25th, he would protect America but possibly put himself at risk.

Pence would rather protect himself and leave all of America at risk.

Quite a patriot and a leader, isn’t he?
