and WOW. I'm honestly in disbelief. I don't know how CNN et al live with themselves. Absolutely disgusting liberal mob behavior.

And that native American accuser is a psychopath.

+1, watch the video. It’s absolutely shocking. NSFW due to language from the protesters.

The media is absolutely shameful the way they portages what happened, despite surely knowing the truth. No credibility at all. None. Zero.

NP to this thread, haven’t read any of the prior 27 pages. I’m a never trumper, black and first saw this video when it aired last year.

I remember feeling very angry about the children wearing MAGA hats, just willingly agreeing to line up with an administration based on their parents views, or what they were hearing in biased national reporting. I remember feeling sorry for them, and so disappointed. My initial reaction was that the boy was smirking and taunting him. I didn’t think much more and the story died away.

Fast forward to today. I just watched the video above. Like so many others, I was deceived in the manner information was presented. CNN, and any other news station, were completely in the wrong to add to the chaos by reporting on what was either manipulated information or poorly researched information. Isn’t part of their job to flush out the truth and then present the public with facts to form their own opinion? That right is taken away from me when biased information is given. I know information will often lean liberal or conservative, and I generally lower my expectations and dig further with certain sources instead of accepting it at face value.

The group of black “Hebrew Israelites” were agitators, racist, misogynistic, and not reflective at all of what Hebrew Israelites stand for. Honestly, they should have been arrested for attempting to incite a riot on federal grounds. The boys demonstrated clearly that they had good judgment by walking away from the Hebrew Israelites and continuing on their path. This is a religious private school student, mind you.

The Native American accuser seems thirsty for attention, someone that probably doesn’t have malicious intent but isn’t innocent in how he presents information. Something is off with him. I didn’t see him step back in the video as he said. I didn’t see him trying to make a path. And actually, I think the face that they formed a peace circle speaks volumes to the character of the group.

My guess is that the Native American man of questionable judgment heard the Hebrew Israelites hate filled rhetoric and felt threatened. Maybe the Native perceived a threat that wasn’t there, much like some do when surrounded by black men. Or maybe “build a wall” was repeated amongst the classmates, but the murmurings were a relating of information to what was happening in another section of the group, and not an endorsement for building a wall. But even if that is/was their position, they are allowed to voice that opinion safely, as much as it may saddens me. After watching the Covington student the entire clip, with all of the footage tells a very different story. I judged improperly before. Even witnessing how he encouraged his classmate to pipe down spoke volumes to me about my perceptions in that group.

CNN, and any other station that reported so quickly that they didn’t validate the information, should be ashamed. This is the danger of confirmation bias. It is very powerful when it is allowed to exist in an echo chamber that panders to an audience seeking just that, a reassurance of their own convictions.

In retribution, CNN should also play the full video to their viewers, ttake accountability for their inaccurate reporting, and put what really happened out there. Demonstrate and distinguish themselves from others. There is no weakness in the strength and courage of humility. Otherwise, they are no different than any other Sinclair or Briebart affiliate throwing drama into the arena to keep the arguments going.

False reporting is dangerous, and shouldn’t be legal from licensed authorities over the public, public officials sworn to protect the public. If it is opinion, present it as such. And if you are wrong, don’t be afraid to admit it, Express regret, request forgiveness, and repair the damage with a meaningful act to show it is something taken seriously.

Bravo to this ^^ poster.

Democracy dies when journalism is corrupted.

The end.

The kid is a jerk. Nothing changes that for me. I watched what seemed like hundreds of clips of that incident. I know people whose kids go there and who have faculty positions there. That kid absolutely knew what he was doing. He looked like an entitled jerk for doing it. And the school failed in preparing those kids for how to act and what to expect from a protest environment. If you're going to send kids there w/o preparing them, that's on you. You don't then get to act like babes in the woods.

I am beyond thrilled his suits were tossed.

You still don’t get it. The journalists did nothing wrong if a federal judge tossed out all these lawsuits.

The only people cheering this are the kind of people who think entitlement, nastiness and bullying are good things.

Wood was on the case years ago at the start of the thread, he probably hasn’t been for a while.

I’m pp. Thanks. Another poster had mentioned Lin Wood and I had forgotten he was no longer on the case. Right wing media seems to think the dismissal is proof Sandman was paid zillions out of court. Wouldn’t it be summary judgement if they had settled? I’m aware that CNN settled earlier. I still wonder what kind of parents send their teens on sleep away trips halfway across the country with priests. I hope non of these teens were victimized.

What if that had been your teen-aged son encountering these grown ass men behaving badly? Would you have expected your son to handle the situation better than this kid did - so that anyone filming the encounter would have said his behavior was perfect? He's a kid. Do you think your same-age son would have handled this situation like a politically-minded adult? Of course not. The American Indian got in his face. Those of you calling this kid "entitled," a "jerk," a "bully" are really inappropriate.

I don't have a son so I don't have skin in this game aside from being a fair-minded mom, who sees that this kid was unfairly singled out, by getting placed in a charged political situation by a lot of politically motivated grown ass adults. That includes the media, who sought to destroy this kid. How would you feel if the media turned your child into a target for a moment's pleasure? You'd be outraged. But you are not outraged on this kid's behalf, are you, because it doesn't fit your political agenda.

You really do want to turn American men into wimps, don't you? This kid acted the way a well mannered but red blooded kid would have reacted. He did nothing wrong. Get over yourselves.

No one wants to go viral. But when it happens, then you roll with it. You don't sue everyone for millions of dollars. That's poor parenting.

No, the first wrong thing he did was wear that MAGA hat. If my teenage son wore one of those, I would have no sympathy.

You sue if you’ve been defamed, especially if the media outlet intentionally edited the clip to further its defamatory angle to boost clicks and drive revenue.

No, you really don't. That's not a thing to normal people do. It's not what people who go viral do. It's bad parenting.

The court disagreed with the claim of defamation.

There was video filmed from a position behind Sandmann, where you can hear him and his friend joking around about the Native Americans as he's standing in front of the drummer. You can also see the chaperones waving at him it's time to leave, which Sandmann ignores so he can continue staring at the drummer.

Nothing that was said about Nick Sandmann was false.

I think CNN is the only one that settled. The Post was dismissed earlier and all of these other ones he lost at the summary judgment stage.

Yes, I would. I have high expectations for my kids. That means not continuing to engage with people even when they're acting poorly, even when they're adults. I would be livid at any child of mine, male or female who behaved like that.

I'm not saying he (or I at that age) always meet the high expectations I have, but if my teenage son was in his shoes doing what he did, the Washington Post would be the least of his concerns.
