NP to this thread, haven’t read any of the prior 27 pages. I’m a never trumper, black and first saw this video when it aired last year.
I remember feeling very angry about the children wearing MAGA hats, just willingly agreeing to line up with an administration based on their parents views, or what they were hearing in biased national reporting. I remember feeling sorry for them, and so disappointed. My initial reaction was that the boy was smirking and taunting him. I didn’t think much more and the story died away.
Fast forward to today. I just watched the video above. Like so many others, I was deceived in the manner information was presented. CNN, and any other news station, were completely in the wrong to add to the chaos by reporting on what was either manipulated information or poorly researched information. Isn’t part of their job to flush out the truth and then present the public with facts to form their own opinion? That right is taken away from me when biased information is given. I know information will often lean liberal or conservative, and I generally lower my expectations and dig further with certain sources instead of accepting it at face value.
The group of black “Hebrew Israelites” were agitators, racist, misogynistic, and not reflective at all of what Hebrew Israelites stand for. Honestly, they should have been arrested for attempting to incite a riot on federal grounds. The boys demonstrated clearly that they had good judgment by walking away from the Hebrew Israelites and continuing on their path. This is a religious private school student, mind you.
The Native American accuser seems thirsty for attention, someone that probably doesn’t have malicious intent but isn’t innocent in how he presents information. Something is off with him. I didn’t see him step back in the video as he said. I didn’t see him trying to make a path. And actually, I think the face that they formed a peace circle speaks volumes to the character of the group.
My guess is that the Native American man of questionable judgment heard the Hebrew Israelites hate filled rhetoric and felt threatened. Maybe the Native perceived a threat that wasn’t there, much like some do when surrounded by black men. Or maybe “build a wall” was repeated amongst the classmates, but the murmurings were a relating of information to what was happening in another section of the group, and not an endorsement for building a wall. But even if that is/was their position, they are allowed to voice that opinion safely, as much as it may saddens me. After watching the Covington student the entire clip, with all of the footage tells a very different story. I judged improperly before. Even witnessing how he encouraged his classmate to pipe down spoke volumes to me about my perceptions in that group.
CNN, and any other station that reported so quickly that they didn’t validate the information, should be ashamed. This is the danger of confirmation bias. It is very powerful when it is allowed to exist in an echo chamber that panders to an audience seeking just that, a reassurance of their own convictions.
In retribution, CNN should also play the full video to their viewers, ttake accountability for their inaccurate reporting, and put what really happened out there. Demonstrate and distinguish themselves from others. There is no weakness in the strength and courage of humility. Otherwise, they are no different than any other Sinclair or Briebart affiliate throwing drama into the arena to keep the arguments going.
False reporting is dangerous, and shouldn’t be legal from licensed authorities over the public, public officials sworn to protect the public. If it is opinion, present it as such. And if you are wrong, don’t be afraid to admit it, Express regret, request forgiveness, and repair the damage with a meaningful act to show it is something taken seriously.
