| It must be exhausting to think you must go to Yale, live in Bethesda, and have kids at Whitman to be happy. Good grief. I’ll keep you in my prayers. |
Not just happy, worthy. It’s staggering that people think this way. |
Well, at least you own it. Being majority white != class. As evidenced by this comment. Many high schools in the DCC have a variety of families -- some work for state department, IMF, DoJ, NIST, etc -- with PhDs and JDs (even in the same house!) and of all levels of melanin. It turns out that those who are melanin-challenged don't have a lock down on class. Why do you equate majority white with better? I don't. |
|
What's really weird is that it isn't for personal happiness or to make the world a better place. It's going from a high pressure high school, to a top tier university to the big important job to buy a big house in the right neighborhood, luxury cars, and to put your kids on the pressure track to repeat the whole process. But for what? Social status? So others will know you have succeeded? To prove something? To be better than the neighborhoods just east of you?
|
That is awesome. You now think that people in the DCC went to UDC. Not Yale. In our house, (not the PP - but affluent, over educated, in DCC) we have a PhD and JD and all our schools (undergrad, masters, PhD, JD) are in the top 10 in the nation. Not all colleges are the same. And there is no way in gods green earth that someone with this narrow of a mind went to Yale. Harvard perhaps, but not Yale. |
It might be okay (as in not totally harmful) to have this kind of thought process if you have inherited wealth or if you’re making 1m+. But if you’re a somewhat regular person, making less than $500k annually, this would be an awful hamster wheel to live on. |
|
Yes, it's a hamster wheel. What happened in Palo Alto could very easily happen in Bethesda and Potomac: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2015/12/the-silicon-valley-suicides/413140/

+1 If that is the measure of success, I'll stay stupid and happy here in my Woodside Park dump with my SLAC degree and my little $200K job. And I guess my Einstein kid is doomed by virtue of breathing the same air as Latinos every day. |
|
Every time I hear UDC I think of the “University of the Department of Corrections”. I shouldn’t, but I do.
|
I get it that some people prefer to be the big fish in a small bowl opposed to below average in a large fancy aquarium. I just don’t get why they can’t admit that their tank smells because it doesn’t have a filtration system. Congrats on being the top of the pile in silver spring, color me unimpressed. |
Nobody cares whether you were impressed. Which is the point. |
Yes you do, hence you rambling off your resume. You know you live in the meh part of town but you need(!) people to know you live in whitest upper middle class part with a higher end fed equivalent salary with your way above average for the local area education. You need them to know that you don’t mind the Latinos with all that you have, you’re betting and confident your kids won’t end up like them. Heady gamble but make sure the forum knows that the anonymous poster isn’t one of the poor 70% of parents at Einstein but one of the middle class 30%. You care deeply |
I'm the PP above who made the worthy comment: even if what you say is true, PP, who cares? Why do YOU feel the need to shit all over people whom you perceive to be inferior to you? You can "impress" people with what I'm sure is your sterling resume all you want, but I don't get why can't you admit your breathtaking insecurity. FWIW, I attended a W school growing up. We live in the DCC, zoned for Einstein, although we have a ways to go as our oldest just started K (and is thriving, and we are thrilled with her school). You bet it bothers me that some MS-13 creep was hanging out outside the school. But, it also bothers me that many kids in the W schools experience crippling stress. I know quite well that the DCC isn't all sunshine and roses, but neither are the W schools. Not by a long shot. |
NP. I realize that you need this - you need to shit on others who you do not deem as good as you. It’s the only thing you’ve got. I say this without mentioning my credentials/ resume at all: you are pathetic. Because you are so spectacular (as are your offspring, of course), you already know this. I just thought it bears repeating. |
$200k+ is not middle class. |
