I am happy when I meet a Gus because I was not so sure about it and it validates my decision - which I think is pathetic.

I have a nephew Gus, which is short for August, which was my grandfather's name and the only family name that hadn't been used in every generation. (We're all very big on family names, always have been.) Gus fits him to an absolute T.

I have a friend whose son is named Gus. They are both hilarious, charming and beautiful, inside and out.

You are an avid reader of baby name blogs and chose Josephine over Piper and Marlowe. You're 32 and addicted to True Blood and Vampire Diaries, though you don't admit it. You're reasonably sporty, like doing crafts with your kid, and secretly think you're better than your coworkers in most regards.

DC2: Find out sex in 2 weeks. If a boy, William Whitfield (will go by Whit), if a girl, Shelby is our current leader

Shelby

I pray you have a boy. Although, Whit is not much better than Shelby.

Shelby. Steel Magnolias your favorite movie? Mustang your favorite car? Whit...less? OMG, the poor kids.

None! Shelby is just one of the few names DH and I can agree on and Whit is short for Whitfield which is the name of the chapel we were married in.

You picked the Peace Corps over TFA and still work in the international field. You are one of those effortlessly pretty women and your DH is probably a hottie. You still live in the city, somewhere like Logan Circle, and plan to stay there. You hope to live abroad again and the kids went to language immersion preschool.

You are Jews and live in Cleveland Park in a giant Victorian house with turrets. You bought the house with the money you inherited when your trust really kicked you into the big leagues when you turned 30. Before you were married, you lived with your soon to be DH in a roomy 2 bedroom apartment on the top floor of a post-war building overlooking the West Side Highway. You wrote an off-off Broadway play while you were living in New York. Since you've been in DC, you've written a couple of feature articles for the WaPo, nothing more in several years. You do multi media painting and make pottery in your garage. Your husband is a descendant of journalist royalty and he makes not very good political documentaries for his "production company" with your great grandmother's money. Your great aunt was the first woman to have a seat on the New York Stock exchange and you hope that Zoe will take after her. Your hair is straight and smooth and black with streaks of steely gray and you don't care who likes it. When the kids go off to college, you will divorce your husband, sell the house and move to the Hamptons with your female yoga teacher/lover.

When you were first married, you used NFP, but it didn't work very well and you decided that it was just another means to reject true intimacy as well as God's blessings.

We considered naming our first David Greene because that was the name of the landlord of our furnished apartment. It was his house and his bed where the baby was conceived so it made perfect sense to us. Too bad we had a girl instead.

I think you need to go back to the drawing board. Shelby is a PWT name that will destine her to be fat, uneducated, and have a few missing teeth. Or she will be a really cool race car driver and go by the nickname "Cobra".

Yes, we found out after we chose the name, since we've never seen it, but my brother zoomed in on that immediately. I mailed out the names when we picked them around 12:30 at night and 3 minutes later my brother responded "You're naming my nephew after a serial killer?" I had to look it up.

Ooh...I had forgotten about Philadelphia Story until you reminded me. We saw the play version of this when he was about 7 months old (a rare night out) and I had forgotten, but you're right...a great association.
