I live in Shaw. We hear of shootouts near 7th and O (drug activity and rival gangs) all the time and all of our neighbors stopped going to the playground at the Kennedy Rec Center. The Shaw library branch has a group openly dealing drugs and other merchandise right in front of the doors. The library staff hates it but said they have no jurisdiction outside the doors. There are shootings every couple months right there. My kids and other kids go there, sometimes I think I'm crazy for allowing that, but I'm determined to live in a place where my kids can do the very innocent activity of getting books from their neighborhood library. We all avoid the bus station at 7th and Florida, because there are always about a dozen people tweaking out, maybe from fentanyl. There is absolutely a crime problem here and a feeling of lawlessness in DC (no consequences). That doesn't mean Trump has the right solution, but he has identified an issue. We aren't doing ourselves any favors by pretending it's not true. |
Look you have no problem with criminal gang of pedophiles and human traffickers taking over the Republican Party. You only care about the blacks? |
Given the street thugs and marauding bands of rapists, can I work from home now? THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER |
People are such fools. During Trump’s first term he did nothing to stop crime, and in fact, it was worse…
2019 marked the highest number of homicides in the city since 2003. |
I am an older white resident of Navy Yard within a block of metro and Nats Park. Do not believe the stories about it being crazy here. We had one big disruptive incident on July 4 and it has been dealt with by DC PD and curfew. I have no fear walking around my neighborhood by myself. We have almost no homeless people here. What we do have that "scares" people is a significant number of low income black people walking around. They are not dangerous at all, but people are freaked out by people who look poor and make noise sometimes. Please don't project your anxieties on those of us living here and paying $$$ for lovely apartments in a walkable neighborhood. I do not want armed men on my streets, Thanks anyway. |
Ha. No. Just people who are finally willing to solve problems. |
So because you, perhaps foolishly, feel 100% safe all the time, this invalidates posts like 11:36 right above you, who gives accurate descriptions of what is going on in neighborhoods like Shaw? |
Those are the same people who put an alcoholic in charge of the DOD. |
^^ sorry, 11:33 post above you. |
I am more concerned about the hate spewed from the right and how that may impact my personal safety than I am for some teens roving CVS or the scattered attempted carjackings. |
Knock it off with the constant race-baiting. |
Martial law and a curfew would take care of most of these problems. I have lived in a country with martial law and ordinary crime was very low. You will have to ask yourself if that is an acceptable scenario for you and your family to live in. |
He can’t even solve immigration, WTH you talking about? “Reports suggest that the current pace of deportations under the Trump administration in 2025 is falling short of the approximately 685,000 deportations recorded during the 2024 fiscal year under President Joe Biden. Some reports suggest that the Trump administration is on track to deport roughly half a million people in 2025.” |
And another one in charge of the US attorney's office for DC. |
If you think Trump is moving homeless people into the rust belt you haven’t been paying attention. |
