I see our country crumbling and my friends I used to work with are having their lives turned upside down. My old boss resigned rather than being assigned to be a border cop - he's a lawyer with 40 years of experience and I feel like my old agency is falling apart. But your analogy doesn't make sense and you're shooting at people who are on your side. Maybe rethink your approach. For a second, I thought oh no, how could I be a “good person” and not continue to be friends with someone that said racist things that pretty much revealed that they could not respect me as a close friend to say those things. Then I thought about it - I keep a small circle of close friends and have a wider circle of acquaintances. If you don’t have trust, and you don’t have respect, don’t have caring and reciprocal effort, to me that’s not a friendship - I learned that hard lesson long ago. Why are people even advocating for forced friendships on this thread? One thing within your control is the time and effort you put into relationships. You don’t get to be everyone’s good friend and everyone doesn’t get to be your good friend. If it was just a one way street, I could be Taylor Swift’s or Beyoncé’s best friend right now but I’m not. I’ve also attended a class with my kid that addresses friendships and one of they key points they made was what I just said as well as emphasizing common interest are a building block of friendships, that you are aware of the signs/signals that they want to be a friend, and see the sign/signals of how they treat you as a friend.
