Well, if you are for genocide of the Palestinian people, then sure, no war, just kill everyone and let Jared redevelop Gaza as was announced this time last year.

What Trump is doing has been supported since at least 1776. In The Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith wrote in support of tariffs to get other countries to drop their tariffs.

He just wants to be center of attention, this whole drama by hanging bazillion American flags, putting a table there for him to sit down and sign. There was no need for this performance or theater, he is an unserious person obsessed with keeping the spotlight on himself, I can't even imagine having this desperate need for attention at the age of 80. In his mind you are a big dog only if the whole world watches you, the reality is that big dogs don't do theater, real "alphas" don't have to open their mouth. Such a terrible example of a human being.

Totally, MAGA brother! As I recall Adam’s words are especially prescient today as he also wrote extensively about containerized cargo and its impact on a global economy, about logistics and supply chains, and about manufacturing and unions and labor as well!

What was true then is true today! Just like bleeding people if they’re sick, or dunking women in big vats of water to see if they float.

That isn't what is happening here. In a global economy, which didn't exist in Adam smith's time, there are alternatives to just about any product available. The tariff wars of the late 1800's cause a depression. Smoot-Hawley extended the Great Depression. After WW2, tariffs have been very targeted to specific industry or products. What Trump is doing is a blanket tariff, which is nothing but a tax increase on consumers, which hits the middle and lower classes the hardest.

General Preference for Free Trade:
Adam Smith, a proponent of free markets and free trade, argued that tariffs, which are taxes on imported goods, could hinder economic growth and prosperity.
Exceptions to Free Trade:
However, Smith acknowledged situations where tariffs might be justified, such as:

-National Security: He believed that tariffs could be used to protect industries vital for national defense, ensuring a country's ability to secure its own resources.
-Retaliation: If a country imposed tariffs on a nation's exports, the retaliating nation might impose tariffs on the offending country's imports to encourage the removal of the initial tariffs.
-Tax Equity: Smith argued that tariffs could be used to ensure that imported goods were taxed at the same rate as domestically produced goods.
-Industry Transition: In cases where a domestic industry was facing competition from imports, tariffs might be used to allow the industry time to adapt and avoid mass unemployment.

Smith's Writings:
In his seminal work, "The Wealth of Nations," Smith discussed the potential benefits and drawbacks of tariffs, arguing that while free trade was generally beneficial, there were circumstances where tariffs might be necessary.
Focus on Long-Term Benefits:
Smith's focus was on promoting long-term economic growth and prosperity, and he believed that free trade was the most effective way to achieve that goal.

IOW, not tariffs.

NAM, traditionally in the pocket of republicans, doesn't seem to be in favor.

"The National Association of Manufacturers said it is still parsing the details and implications of the president’s tariffs. But the group’s president, Jay Timmons, said in a statement: “The high costs of new tariffs threaten investment, jobs, supply chains and, in turn, America’s ability to outcompete other nations and lead as the preeminent manufacturing superpower.”"

Everything is now subject to tariff?? How am I supposed to feed my family - on what exactly? Locally grown produce and grains only? What is this, medieval times?

NYT had an article about Kun shoulder rests for violins that are made in Canada by a small family owned business. These tariffs may put them out of business and increase the market share of the cheap Chinese knockoff shoulder rests.
