It won’t be better. There are clear steps they could take- pay teachers more to create demand and then hire more of them to shrink class sizes but they’d rather hire more people at gatehouse and create additional APs.

Teachers definitely deserve more pay, but hiring more of them will not solve the issue of class size, unless there’s more classrooms.

Yes!

Agreed, but really, all I want to do is to be able to take sick/personal leave days each year and get a sub without knowing how much pressure I put on my co-workers and the kids in my class because there are no subs.

OMG so much this. We work with a lot of rude, stupid people.

YES the rudeness!!!

This makes me sad. I'm curious who are you experiencing rudeness from? Parents? Fellow teachers? Staff? Administrators? Do you have ideas for what the school community should be doing to encourage more civility?

With all of the meetings and requirements before school starts and through September, I’ve been starting off recent school years already behind.

I counted 135 (special education, preschool autism, multiple disabilities, emotional disabilities, etc.).

I did not count all of the IA positions (autism, Cat A, Cat B), public health attendants.

DP. I suspect this is an undercount because some schools probably have 2-3 LD or MD positions. PAC has already started and they’re still not staffed or badly understaffed at a lot of schools. They can’t hire behavior specialists or crisis intervention teachers even though some of those teams are great. They will never be able to hire the amount of IAs/ PHAs they’re going to need because the job is terribly underpaid for the work that’s required. The situation is dire.

107 K-6 Homeroom positions listed. Looks like many students will have long term subs starting the year.

It’s only July. A lot of positions will get filled in August.

We just received an email listing 11 online trainings that need to be completed by the end of September. Hoo-ray.

Maybe military spouses? There are lots of us coming to the DC area in July/August, although we are finding problems getting housing in Nova and having to rent further out.

Yep. And two of the trainings I’m assigned are for systems/programs that I don’t even have access to. It’s stuff like this that wastes my time and shows a lack of respect for my time/my job. These little things add up and are what drive staff over the edge.

There are plenty of house listed for rent around Belvoir that are affordable with an officer's housing allowance
