Union Station smells like urine, has a homeless problem, and is half deserted.

they need to have a car crime task force that literally baits these criminals. And then they need to actually be charged.

Ahhh life with liberal leaders. We live in squalor. Fun!

Early evening, so close to the Capitol on the night of the State of the Union and a young guy likely OD'd in the restroom at Union Station. Sad. So dystopian.

Union Station is not what it was 10-20 years ago, but it’s not as bad as some posters make it out to be.

The responses to this are depressing. The best explanation I understand for why Union Station is like this is people evidently like it like this. They like the rampant crime, drug use and vagrancy.

Ugh! I have to take the train to NYC this month and get back in the evening. Wondering if I should switch to BWI.

You’ll be fine. Don’t get sucked in by all of the Nervous Nellies on this thread.

We never go to Union Station. We use New Carrolton. Pretty much the same time frame to get there from Montgomery County.

I mean, you will see homeless people and probably some people who are on drugs. But there's zero reason to think you would be safer at the BWI train station than Union Station. I agree with posters on here that US has gotten really unpleasant in the last few years and I don't enjoy going there, but I do it all the time and it's not unsafe. I deal with homeless people and drug traffic near my office, too. It's sad but does not put me in danger.

Agree. I have def noticed an uptick of homeless and strung out people. But I walk in, go to my gate, and board. I have never felt unsafe, I just mind my business and move on.

It’s nice that you feel safe, but there is very good reason for other not to feel safe, particularly women.

Ironically the Philly Amtrak station only has a couple homeless people, if that.

The Moynihan has no seating. Ridiculous.

who cares

Glad you’re not elderly or disabled.

Maybe inside. Last time I was near the Philly Amtrak station, pre-COVID, the neighborhood was sketchy as hell.
