Union Station smells like urine, has a homeless problem, and is half deserted.

There is something fundamentally broken in this city.

I'm surprised she wasn't arrested for swatting the man's hand away.

My husband, 6'2" and a strong 220 lbs, has expressed how he often feels unsafe at Union Station in the evenings to get his MARC train.

I'm that size and have never had a problem. Usually they won't bother with a big guy and in the very rare instances that they do, they front and get mouthy but ultimately back down when they realize you're twice their size and aren't going to back down either.

Bingo. Yet DC residents keep voting for their own demise. Why?

I wish this report was more clear about what time of night this happened, whether during commute hours or later.

Virtue signaling. They're not "criminals" they're poor people who had traumatic childhoods. Instead of homeless people, these are people who can't afford housing (wrong! Plenty are mentally ill and like living outside)

Why is that information relevant?

Because I commute there on a regular basis?

There were black tie dinners at the Union Station until
a few years ago.

A guy got carjacked there at 8:30 AM. It doesn’t matter what time of day. It’s always unsafe.

What’s wrong with voters getting what they vote for? It’s totally predicable

NP. Totally agree, and NBC4 should know better and should have given the time, which entrance as well. While unfortunately this could have happened even at noon these days, it does help set context to know if it was noon, or 7 p.m., or midnight etc.

We just had a friend of college DD visit us over the holidays and friend took the train to and from Union Station. I was OK sending DD in there solo without a thought for a 7 a.m. pickup while I stayed in the car outiside, but am now glad my DH went in with them when we were dropping off the friend for a late night train. Good grief.

I have lived here a long time and used to take trains a LOT, and remember the huge overhaul of the moribund Union Station back in, I think, the 80s? It was such a huge improvement. The way it's gone downhill is sad. Maybe once it's renovated, actual functioning security can be part of the deal. Maybe. I'm not awfully hopeful, though.
